Harry Winks is a significant part of the problem. If you watched him closely today, you’d see why. He rushes challenges, gets passed around and leaves huge vacant gaps in the midfield. He attempted to play a give and go with Aurier today and, when Aurier lost the ball, Winks was basically at the corner flag.

when he does have the ball, he plays safe sideways passes or goes backwards. There is absolutely NO coincidence that we looked much, much sharper in midfield when Ndombele replaced him.

I like him. But he’s not good enough to start in midfield as our designated ball winner.

Yep this is all on him, our situation is nothing to do with anything else at all.

No it's not on him. Basically you could say that about every player after todays performance.
But I dont get why Poch persist to play Winks every game. He's so overrated and doesn't offer anything going back or forwards.
Rather bench our £60m record signing.

He also played the riskiest ball at a time when we were 0-1 down.

But that won't be mentioned.

Once again I ask the question, what the fuck is Winks or anyone else for that matter meant to do when everyone in front of them in playing musical statues?!

I don’t see much finger pointing at our golden boy Kane! He was non existent with the rest of the side for the majority of today.

I like winks, but just feel we dont at this moment in time have the players to play a system that suits him and hes not good enough to build the team around.

I didn’t see the same problem for Ndombele though when he replaced him.
Maybe it is because Winks doesn’t even look for the forward pass, just the safe sideways pass, and that is what slows us down, whereas Tanguy looks to progress us.
Really overrated by many, not our only problem, but the Winks/Sissoko axis is by far the biggest issue for me, neither should be first choice in a Top 6 team, and we start both in the most important area on the park, which just happens to coincide with our awful slow performances over the last 18 months.

Since the Dembélé/ Dier or Wanyama combo has changed, so has all our fast transitional play, no longer are defenders on the back foot, as they have time to organise and even have a cup of coffee before we cross the half way line nowadays, as well as have very little defensive cover exposing our now fragile defence.

And you cannot build a team around him, as he has no other skill set than passing. If he could defend or attack competently then maybe, but he just can’t.

Noticed the difference when ndombele came on where he also passes forward at every opportunity, but the difference ndombele carries on running snd nearly scored from serges cross, I think Winks needs to have 2 other CM, 1 either side of him as he isn’t a defending midfielder and he isn’t creative enough in a 2

Slagging Winks is harsh imo. The guy ran himself into the ground today, and was one of a very few players who really cared. He had no movement ahead of him, and was always showing for the ball.

I said it elsewhere and I'll say it here. Winks passes to the man, yes they are standing still. N'Dombele passes into space and says "stop standing still and go after that".

I look forward to seeing if HW can do things differently under a new coach. Technically he’s good in tight spaces, could easily run on and work in tight spaces in the final third, but he appears to be under instructions to retain and recycle it to the wing backs, in particular.

Not giving up on him yet, but his impact in these tactics really is very limited.

needs to be in a midfield 3 to really get the best out of him, he's got talent and the right qualities but i feel hes being asked to do a bit more then he can handle atm

Have to agree with the general consensus and say that I do like Winks and think that he could be a good player in a league where the pace is slower like the Italian or Spanish leagues.

I will say that if Poch truly believes that a winks and sissoko midfield is the answer then we are in even more trouble than I first thought. Neither of them would get anywhere near the other 5 teams starting midfield which is a major problem for us. We need to sign a top level protective midfielder and partner him with our most expensive signing who tore Man City apart in the Champions League last year.

Even watching those extended highlights, the amount of times he was looking up (first half, countless) to find static players in front of him is yet again an indictment of the system and the players playing in it.

No one is playing particularly well at present and he has looked bang average. Like Sissoko he has limitations and the manager should be finding ways in which you use players strengths to outweigh the negatives they possess.

I like him as a player and he has had some great performances with us. But yesterday he was one of the main causes of our static play, forever moving the ball sideways and slowing play down. He is great at recycling the ball but needs to be far more adventurous. We instantly improved when Ndombele replaced him.

we instantly improved when playing a back 4 rather than a back three, and by the time Ndombele came on Winks was knackered for having done the running for half his team mates for 60 minutes.

What it comes down to for me is Poch getting it wrong again selection wise. We were never going to need Winks to recycle the ball and help us keep possession in a game like this, we don’t need him in games where we dominate the ball. We need him against the better sides where he shines.

What does Southgate see that some of our fans don't? General view against Bulgaria was that he played well doing the same thing that I saw he did yesterday. The difference is the players around him in my opinion.

He's a backup, end of story. The experiment needs to end.

This.
Doesn’t have a tackle in him.
Doesn’t have a forward pass in him.
Not good enough in a CM2 for a top side.
Enough is enough.

I don’t care if he’s showing for the ball ffs..
