Jose seems happy with Winks..
That game at that moment was like that, with Winks on the pitch the team gained again that stability that we had. We were very much comfortable, we were in control. Then the first half appeared and everything changed.

Could be case I guess of not wanting to throw him under the bus so to speak
He readily threw Ndombele under the bus for poor performances so I’m not sure why Winks would deserve protection. Ndombele had an excuse, Winks literally has none.

They had several good positional play exactly like what they had with Winks on the pitch except they scored from those areas - down to poor defending moreso than Winks...

Also as for chances, they had a clear open goal they missed, Kane put in a good block just before HT. I recall Antonio also having a chance just before our goal. The goals were always coming, the pressure was being put on us, it may not have been intense pressure but it was pressure. I get it, the opposition will always have opportunities and goal we will always concede, no one will ever not concede a goal again but to have Winks as a scapegoat when the issues were prevalent before coming on is a bit misguided.
Not sure what game you were watching, but until the 2 subs, winks on and Bale on we were defending like a team comfortably seeing out a 3-0 lead. I never saw that coming before the substitutions and neither did anyone else in the match thread before the substitutions.

What chances are you referring to? West ham had 4 shots on target 3 of which were after Winks came on the pitch and they scored from.
The other was a potshot in the first 30 seconds of the match.

There’s a difference between us going to sleep and West Ham seizing the initiative. The former was true as soon as we went up 3-0 but the latter didn’t happen until Ndombele went off.

Ndombele was controlling the match even if we weren’t as ruthless as we should have been. Winks on the other hand was a complete passenger. Don’t see how anyone could miss the sea change that happened after Ndombele went off.

Slightly different, Ndombele wasn't even running or tracking back.
It’s the opposite of Winks, though. I know two wrongs don’t make a right but you can’t protect Winks for running around a lot but making errors leading to goals then criticise Ndombele for not running but still making things happen for the team, no?

No, it's counter productive, absolutely pointless calling players out in public unless they are really taking the piss like Ndombele was, Winks not being good enough isn't his fault.

He's just not on Big 6 level and has never been.
This man would kill it in any mid-table team, if i was him i would look for a move, it can be great for both him and us

But Winks doesn’t deserve criticism for attempting a dangerous touch towards two pressing opposition players in the final few seconds rather than clearing the ball?

I'm in absolutely full agreement with you.

He wasn't attempting a dangerous touch. He was stretching to win the second ball. The third goal was a fantastic strike. If the blame lies anywhere, it lies with where the turnover happened and that was Serge Aurier giving away a stupid free kick in a dangerous area.

It wasn’t a stupid free kick. It was a stupid decision from the referee. Aurier knocked the ball into touch and the referee fell for the player falling over.

It was their foul, clear and simple. And Aurier switched off to allow the opportunity to occur in the first place. There are too many players in our team that seem to have concentration issues, especially when tired. Aurier is one of them.

Presumably I think he is a very good lad and works very hard during training.

But really, he lacks talent.. Hope Mourinho can understand sooner for the benefit of the team.

Honestly, wouldn’t get near any other starting 11 of top half of PL. I’d put Skipp ahead of him.
We’ll live to regret loaning out Skipp. He’s exactly what we needed to see out the game today. A calm head, tactically disciplined and actually capable of playing a defensive role in midfield.

Personally wish Skipp had stayed so we could sell Winks and use the money we got for him towards Skriniar.

They aren't the same type of players, but it's Skipp we need...

Not sure why or based on what we think Winks can do a job defensively.
Honestly have no idea what our cm should look like if Sissoko and Winks are the furthest back cm's
