Winks

Ndombele -------------------- Lo Celso

That should be our midfield 3 until the end of the season.

He did ok yesterday, but even if playing to instructions which I doubt to take no risks on the ball at all he is still not good enough especially alongside Sissoko.

a clear consequence of their lack of progressive play and inability to find the forwards is conceding ground, retreating deeper if we have our noses in front and if we are behind a total lack of spark to turn it around.

We average two shots on goal which is down to the lack of attacking ambition from midfield, oh and a bit of Ben Davies as well- can someone, anyone, please give him a fkin break

Most of the time they do anyways

I don't know why we seem content to sit back and hope the other team doesn't score knowing full well if they're even the slightest bit competent that they will eventually. We won't instead risk playing players who could possibly create more chances for the worlds best striker. If we had a solid midfield I could at least understand the premise of playing this way but we don't have that midfield currently.

We might be better served to try and put teams to the sword as evidenced by the teams which are currently playing the best football including United.

I would love this to be the case, and if we had Pep as our manager I have no doubt this would be happen, but under a rigid, defensive manager like Mourinho I don't think we'll be seeing this midfield 3 anytime soon.

Opposition attackers would slice through that like a knife through butter

I'm not sure about that. If, and a big if, you had all them doing their bit in midfield I don't see why it couldn't work.

Winks and particularly Lo celso are tenacious in the tackle and have positional understanding. Obviously Ndombele is the question mark defensively.

On the ball it's a jaw dropper of a midfield.

Its absolutely what I'd be aiming for with this squad, with Bergwign, Kane and Son ahead of them.

New full backs, with Toby and Dier at the back, and that would compete next season.

I really think he's maturing as a player under Jose, certainly learning the defensive side of the game a lot more and to be fair he's never going to be an attacking creative or goalscoring CM he's one who can keep things ticking over so strengthening the defensive side of his game is a good thing. I think he could actually become a very similar player to Scott Parker if he wanted to.

I thought he had a good match yesterday. People moan that he is ‘too safe’ or not ‘adventurous’ enough with his passing but have you ever considered that it’s because he’s following instructions? He seems to be our only midfielder that currently has any discipline or positional sense. For that reason he needs to start every match.

He was clearly under instruction yesterday. Ever since we went 1-0 up I noticed a lot of players hitting safe passes. Two or three times he had acres to run forwards into and chose not to.

This is why i'm hoping the DM will transform us. It'll allow mistakes to be made in that midfield area and more penetrating and progressive passes to be hit knowing there's a shield in front of the defence to limit opposition counters.

We need a Popescu for that Ardiles of a midfield and attack, not Winksy.

We need some power in there...all 3 just dont have the muscle with these 3 in the middle of midfield a Wanyama or Dier in his prime would do the job

I think core strength and centre of gravity now is very important in the PL. Unless you have a strong player who is also mobile then they will struggle. Point in case Dier and when Wanyama lost his mobility. teams can just go right through us. But with Dembele who could ride challenges and had good core strength we were a lot tougher.

Played more long passes(forward too) than any other midfielders/forwards yestarday for us.
And today 93 touches, 81 passes, 68 forward(11 of them long, 6 to final 3rd). 3 tackles and 3 interceptions too.
Compare that too Sissoko with 47 touches, 35 passes,18 forward(3 of them long, 2 to final 3rd..) 1 tackles and 0 interceptions

The forwards passes metric for him is such an illusion. He's constantly passing to fullbacks who are wide open that are ahead of him. He couldn't spell through ball if his life depended on it.

Honestly would he start in Bournemouths team?

If we want to somehow get back to where we were about 18 months ago he should be moved on.

He's a very limited player.

Not a single assist from open play after consistent playing time for 3 years. Hes a bottom half player.

Honest to god the only time I ever saw him is when he kept giving the ball away in the second half.

The game bypasses him on many occasions. He is a nice footballer but nothing else.
