Harry's upturn in form seems to have coincided with Lo Celso playing with him. It's either made him raise his game or just playing with better players helps him reach a higher level (or both). You can tell Jose's trust in him is also growing which must give him a real boost. Either way I welcome this and long may it continue, love seeing this guy celebrate he is proper Spurs.
Lo Celso is always on the move and looking for the ball. Winks has unsurprisingly got his reputation as an unimaginative passer whilst playing mainly alongside Dier and Sissoko. Winks, Lo Celso and Ndombele could form quite a formidable midfield 3.

Don’t be obtuse, you know full well I was making the point that two of our best CMs in modern history took till around this age to come out of their shell (and countless other CMs) so we should give a Winks the same patience, not that I was sayings Winks is as good/ will be as good as Modric or Carrick.
even dembele who is now seen as the goatest of goats was rightly being kept out of the side by mason and bentaleb at the age of 26. hell i even remember him being strongly linked with a move to sunderland around that time and most were ambivalent to the idea.

clever, ish. I look forward to Winks miraculously developing the dexterity the other two already had the day they joined.

It’s not about shell, or confidence, or role/position demanded by the coach. it’s about natural talent. Winks is one dimensional.

We need better, and can do better. If he wasn’t an academy product and a good egg this would be more obvious.

This still has nothing to do with my point but ok.

Whether playing deeper or not. His goal involvements for a CM or CDM are woeful. 2 in his last 93 games. He’s got to effect a game more than that to play CM in a top 4 team. I don’t care how well he may do other stuff.

You'd think someone with that username would have a better judgement of footballing talent....

Busquets has 15 goals & 37 assists in 563 games for Barca in a similar position in a far easier league.

Winks certainly needs to try and chip in but is it really his job atm when he’s the deepest sitting midfielder.

Especially with the minimal defensive output he offers.

Busquets is also the best DM of the past decade and reads the game at an incredible level. He’s averaged almost twice as many tackles/interceptions as Winks has this year per game. So almost double the defensive output and over 4 times the offensive.

That wasn’t the discussion though it was his goal contribution which isn’t high is it maybe 5 a season in a dominating Barcelona team.

The point I’m making is asking for goal contributions from a player that sits just inside the opposition half is a poor point to put across.

also to point out that Busquets is just a reference to a player in the same position not saying they are the same quality

The majority of the time he’s around the halfway line or 10 yards either side of it. However you dress it up 1 assist in 93 games is shocking.

Didn’t Dembele average about 1 assist a season?

Should he get a couple more yeah sure but while he’s playing as the deepest CM it’s not really a problem.

It’s when/if he moves in a 8 and continues not to contribute it becomes a problem.

He’s always been an 8, he’s just better at playing “deeper” cause he offers so little in the final third. My issue with him as the deepest lying midfielder and also offering nothing in the final third is he doesn’t offer enough defensively to justify a starting role there long term.

Also, Dembele has 22 goals/assists in 249 games. So over 4x as often as Winks and was incredible defensively. Why would we settle for a player who is worse at both sides of the game?

He’s never played as a 8 though always as the deepest midfielder and with completely poor partners.

Dier, Sissoko and 5 minute Tom Ndombele making him do so much work it’s clear why we’ve looked poor in that area.

it no coincidence that we’ve looked better with winks and Gio who both get stuck in but both can handle the

You see how when he played as a 8 for England he looked great ( poor opposition though ).

Dembele was clearly a one of a kind player though. We just spent £65m on his replacement and he can’t run for 5 mins.

Give me a better player than winks fine but as the original point of saying his goal contributions as that is what a deep midfielder should be spoke about was as a major talking point I don’t agree with. It’s a extra bonus if anything

Why? Modric and Carrick (i'm not saying he is on the same level as either before you get your knickers in a twist) were hardly prolific scorers/assisters while with us but it didn't stop them being good players.

Guessing you meant "I'm not saying."
