Still a top class striker, but a different beast than early 20s Kane.

Those ankle injuries have taken it out of him physically.

Too early to judge as he’s come back from a long layoff but wasn’t thrilled he stayed on for 90 as he wasn’t offering a whole lot.

Not sure why people could have excuses after excuses for Kane when he played poorly really.

Compare apple to apple, Kane had no impact at all in the first 20 minutes compared to Pogba.
You can't compare a player who comes on for the final 20 minutes against a tired opposition to a player who started in a slow tempo opening match. I'm sure Kane would have looked better for a short spell at the end but maybe it's better for him to have a feel for 90mins again.

I would be astonished if Kane ever hits his best seasons again in terms of goals or performances, whether he stays here or goes elsewhere. We have destroyed our best player in a generation.

Fucking hell. 1st game back after 6 months out and he doesnt impress in a cagey, defensive game and suddenly he's shit? Give the man a break.

I know football fans gonna football fan, but even for SC this is a bit much.

I think this is probably the specific thing about Levy's reign that angers me the most. We had a once-in-a-generation homegrown player who was the best CF in the world at 23 in 2017 and we failed to sign an adequate rotation option in 7/8 transfer windows.

Utterly unforgivable, and the worst illustration of how poorly our squad has been managed over the past few seasons.

(not saying he's finished, just referring to the constant injuries/fairly clear decline which have stopped him matching that 16/17 season)

He hasn't been at his best since his injury at Bournemouth in March 2018. It's not just today. There's always an excuse. He's played too much or he hasn't played enough or he needs a run of games or he needs to be rested. The truth is that the ankle's gone, it's plain to see, and people are in denial. He doesn't have a burst in him any more, he doesn't harass defenders like he used to, he doesn't make runs. He's not shit and he's not finished. But he's nothing like Peak Kane either. He is not the same player who ran games, terrorised everyone he played against, and regularly scored hattricks against the weaker defences. At one stage he was rivalling Messi and Ronaldo numbers, now he's closer to Lukaku. And I don't see anything to remotely suggest that player is coming back.

Can't argue with that tbh - it's just the kneejerk stuff that annoys me.

As you said, even a non-peak Kane still puts up some very impressive numbers and he's still obviously capable of so much more than he showed tonight. He might never be the truly world class player he was a couple of years back, but he's still a hell of a footballer and he has the intelligence, work ethic and ability to adapt his game to these physical limitations.

Also, ironically enough, him losing that edge might be the only way we manage to hold on to him long term.

Hopefully. But we need to start actually managing him, and now. If that ankle gets any dodgier he's gonna go from Romelu Lukaku to Emile Heskey.

I'm not worried about him, I'm worried about our tactics. And in this regard it started with Porch when we didn't buy any midfileders. The moment he started sitting deeper as more a second striker and not leading the line is when things started to go downhill. He doesn't have the pace to make up the space when on the counter if he isn't up top. All that being said, in a month or so he will start scoring regularly again as he obviously needs match fitness. Still the best player at the club imo.

I’m still hopeful that the Harry performance was feeling his way back from his longest break, and a hammy injury.

We know he’s a bit shit first month of a season, even his best seasons started woefully.

I agree that the Harry of 2018 and 2019 was a different fella to the one from previous seasons, but he deserves some patience and a bit of love from us.

He needs to get a proper surgery in his two ankles.

Whilst I agree with most of this , i still feel we need to create more for him and provide service .

He does hit less shots on goal though and comes back way to deep, but we spent the most of them game hoofing long balls to him, I think next season we will know what level kane is really at. The first game back in 6 months and hard to judge
