Come on, Bale was incredible for us. Like unbelievably good in that last season. Just unstoppable. Rashford isn't anywhere near that. As a wide forward Sancho is better. As a striker, well, United don't even seem convinced he's their man to be no.9
Again you misunderstanding the difference between price and value.

If you think the price of a player is based purely on their quality then you haven’t been paying attention.

Even pre covid he wouldn't command that fee. Mainly because he's not even in the top 20 in Europe in his position.

I'm begging dragged into picking apart this insane list. van Dijk isn't even the highest value defender. He's only 28. He's got 4 full years ahead of him at peak level. Even buy your measure of value, what would it take liverpool to part with him? Would it be what this list suggests? No, it would be at least double and probably not even that.

I won't even start on Mason Mount.

Price, value, worth

This comes up every year and people constantly misunderstand the values, they all make sense to me.

We can, I can agree with one statement someone makes and disagree with the next. That's not controversial.

They've placed Rashford above Haaland. You don't need to go any further than that.

Rashford at this point would cost more money than Haaland if they were both on the market, there's nothing controversial about that.

Exactly. But to understand this, you have to understand that price isn't only a reflection of ability.

If price was a true and perfect reflection of ability only, it would be impossible to pick up bargains in the transfer market. This might have become harder over the years, but its still possible.

You would think but look at some of the fees young players are touted for.

Chelsea are extremely wealthy and rate him highly. They would only sell him for a sky high fee. If Mount was at a Championship club his price would be much lower.

which is where he should be

Imagine Bale’s price if we tried to buy him as a teenager from Man Utd instead of Southampton. His price would have been double if they weren’t in financial difficulty.

So many factors go into a price.

Just want to pop in with Rashford is over rated, Haaland is not. The guy is Kane with speed

But irrelevant in terms of this pricing model

Age, length of contract, the level of club the player is at, the quality of the league player is in, position, ability, marketing potential, career trajectory, nationality all need to be considered.

Rashford would be one of the worst value players in world football.

His age, nationality, club, international caps and position add to a very expensive player.

Also if you read my post I wasn’t comparing Bale to Rashford.

If someone offered 60m for Mason Mount, Chelsea would sell I reckon

Don't get me wrong, good young player...but not 90m good.

That said, the players at the top aren't crazy. You're not getting 150m for TAA, outstanding though he is.
If someone offered £60m, Chelsea would snap their hands off. Hell, they’d probably even sell at 50m. Valuing Mount at 91m is absurd. 60m value would be reasonable given he is a good young player with potential even though Chelsea would absolutely sell for that. 91m and one of the 20 most valuable players in the game is joke.

Kane is far more valuable than Rashford. He’s one of the best strikers in the world. He has 3-4 years left at his peak. Rashford, good but not Kane good and never will be Kane good. Take that value they’ve put on Kane and add another £150m to it to get what we’d sell for.
