Think you’re missing the point. No one is disputing he is world class or still able to score goals.

They are talking about the physical aspects of his game ( something that made him the player that he was). And whether it is a deliberate tactical change or one necessitated by injuries/accumulated fatigue.

It’s a perfectly valid observation, although I agree that the assertion in the article that Kane doesn’t fit the system anymore is taking the argument too far.

I was responding to the Liew article predominantly. To suggest Kane is the reason our pressing has decreased is ridiculous as there clearly wasn't a particular uptick when he was out last season.

Plus, suggesting that there is something wrong with being knackered after an early season end to end North London Derby is absurd. Below is a picture of Aubamayang collapsed on the pitch right after the final whistle blew. There was numerous players looking absolutely battered, which is understandable considering the pace of the game and how early it is in the season. Only Kane gets called out though. It's just frustrating to see our own fans fall for these daft media driven narratives.

He is still banging in over 20 goals a season, even with injuries. I'll start worrying about him when it goes below that.

There's definitely merit in saying that Kane isn't working as hard as he used to or pressing as hard, you only have to look at the Newcastle match when it was clear that he just wasn't pressing at all. That said I do think the media to tend to go overboard a bit and it would be better if this article appeared in December for example when players tend to be fitter so we can have a proper judgement on him.

I will say this, all this nonsense criticism shows the level Kane is at now. It's like what happens to Messi, if he isn't scoring 40 yard worldies at the highest level of every competition then he must be falling off. Somehow everyone conveniently forgets football is a team game. Yet Messi goes on banging goals in season after season. Seems like Kane is now at that point.

What is the nonsense criticism? He clearly isn’t playing as well as he did 2 years ago. I don’t know how that is some ridiculous comment. No one in the world thinks Messi has fallen off? He consistently puts in amazing performances hence why he’s back up for all of the player of the year awards.

The Independent called Kane a "weary, trundling husk", FFS!

this and the guardian piece on arsenal being fitter than us were both a bit naff
Tbh I've yet to see a newspaper article posted on here that doesn't get criticised by someone but I thought it offered up some fair point for discussion. I realise that it's subjective though.

Kane couldn't win from the moment he stepped up into our first team and was proclaimed as one of our own the media started with the first narrative ...oh his a one season wonder. Then, it was oh he doesn't score in August. It moved onto if / when Kane gets injured. You've been hearing this special one of late, Spurs are better off without Kane he should be dropped. Kane's not fit. Now, Kane's a diver.

Honestly Harry Kane shoulders a lot of bull shit and still come's back fighting .

As for Dele Alli people just want him to crumble oh and Dier my word.

Funny though Eriksen Vertonghen and Alders three players that have refused to sign contracts are lorded

Jan has not refused to sign a new deal to our knowledge. All indications from him are that he wants to stay.

Spot on.

The never-ending cyclical hate/love sagas are fucking exhausting and so predictable. All of last season Dier was getting mercilessly slagged off despite horrific injury luck, "too slow", "not skilled enough", "not a CM", blah blah blah.

Now, we have a few shaky games to start the season and guess who is showing back up in everyone's preferred XI? Eric Dier! Unfortunately, it's because they realized Dier is a very good player who has had a great tenure at the club but it's because Winks now isn't good enough!

Sadly, it often seems the best way to raise your profile with some supporters is to not play for awhile or try to fuck off.

I remember Rooney also being told not to do ALL the running. They took that out of his game, and made him predictable, less dynamic, and pretty boring.. It seemed to halt his progress, rather than help it, as he just looked a bit lost and angry a lot of the time.

I think we should be pressing from the front, and Kane needs to lead that. The game on NYDay a few seasons back he was absolutely tremendous in doing that, won the ball for a goal if I remember rightly? All this ‘burn out, they can’t always press, they’re getting older etc’ is probably true on the body, but it does t stop Pep or Klopp using it and blowing every team away like we did to both City and Pool just a few short years ago. This is why the recruitment needs to keep adding people to the first team, keep the momentum on the front foot - have adequate like for like replacements to keep your game still ongoing. I really think that this is where we have failed in recent years, hence the lack of a press and higher injury lists.

I was quite excited pre-season with Skipp, KWP, and Parrott in the team, as they were mixing with our starters, but providing that extra bite, enthusiasm, and work rate. Poch has said he likes working with younger players, well, we have those guys. If they are available, put them on the bench, give them 15mins, or get them in from the start - certainly Carabao Cup..

He seems to be looking after himself better on the pitch, so let's hope he can stay injury free.
Down side seems he can't lead the press and put himself about as seen in previous seasons.

Think the criticism is a bit weird as they were also talking about it on Talksport earlier tonight. Last season he followed up being the World Cup top scorer by scoring 17 goals in 24 league games in an injury hit season. With those injuries being caused by him running around and making challenges he doesn’t need to.

Then this season, he starts with 3 goals in 4 games and almost made it 4 in 4 if it wasn’t for the inside of the post against Arsenal. Add that to the fact that he hasn’t been playing in a settled team and one without a strong midfield. The biggest change though is that he is looking after himself better and not making the silly challenges and burning himself out.

Let’s wait and see come Xmas time to see if there is a problem!

I think this is lost on a lot of the media etc... it is clear he has been asked not to make silly challenges and my view is Poch has asked him not to press as hard as he used to. The others seemed to have pressed against Arse but he wasnt... i think all in the name of preserving energy
