The problem witha January loan is they know that as soon as Vic is back they will be on the bench.
Yes but if we get a very talented 2/3 keeper from a big European club they have nothing to lose since they are sitting on the bench anyway…?

Shame David De Gea has been finally snapped up as he would have come in handy around now lol.

Not playing out from the back though lol

first and foremost a keeper should be about keeping the ball out of the back of the net. Sadly I don’t think that Forster is particularly great at that anymore which means that we’re likely to concede a fair few goals between now and Vics return.

If they are deemed good enough to get a squad number in the 25 then they should get a chance in the 1st team if the opportunity arises in my opinion.

I understand the need to have players train and be around the squad but if he isn't deemed good enough or just there for training he shouldn't be given a number.

What this shows to me is that we don't have competition on the GK area..

The way the premier league rules work we can have a lot of players registered as the U21s count separately, it doesnt hurt us to register Whiteman and Austin as we dont have anyone else to register anyway - doesn't mean they are necessarily good enough to start a series of games.

There's a massive difference between being called on to spot for an injury off the bench or the odd cup game against weak opposition, vs being good enough for the Christmas premier league fixture list.

We should have better backup keepers than we do though, who are more capable of stepping in.

If i look at other big clubs keepers, the usually have a very good second choice, Kelleher, Neto at Arsenal, Jorgensen at Chelsea (they spent £20 mil on him from Villarreal after a great season), Ortega, even bayindir at Man utd seems like a talent
Lol. I said that Ortega is very good backup.
I also said that Kelleher is good, but that’s mainly to Alisson missing nearly 30 games since last season, he also said multiple times already he wants to leave Liverpool and be 1st choice somewhere else.
Chelsea doesn’t even have good 1st choice, as both Sanchez and Jorgensen aren’t good. Bayindir didn’t play well for Fenerbahce, massive drop off from Onana.
Maybe Neto, but lets wait until he plays even one game for Arsenal

What happened to that youth player we had in goal a few years back? Can we find out where he went and grab a cheeky loan back

Surely this was an area that we were looking at upgrading long before Vicario’s injury. I’d hope that we already have someone In mind and this just speeds things up a bit…..🙏

Yeah we would have had to deal with it at the end of the season regardless of the injury, realistically tho it's going to be very hard to bring in any decent GK in Jan assuming they are starting for their current club.

Ange:

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario's injury and how long he will be absent: "It's not going to be weeks, it's going to be months. He's had surgery and with surgery, there are certain timelines and because it is Vic.

"I don't like giving timelines so early in the process on something like that because it puts undue pressures on the player and also, maybe some expectations. I think once we get the past the rehab stage, we will have a clearer idea."

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou on Fraser Forster and whether he is ready to fill Guglielmo Vicario's spot: "That's why he's here. Fraser played Carabao Cup, he's played a couple of European games and that's the reason we played him, it's the reason we have him in the squad. He's ready to go."

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou on whether the club will sign a free agent goalkeeper following news that Guglielmo Vicario would miss "months" after undergoing ankle surgery: "No, that is not going to happen. That's why we've got a squad of players. I don't think us signing a free agent now is going to help us. If I hadn't named Fraser [Forster] in the European squad, that would've been a radical decision.

"When you're left with two and they couldn't play in Europe, then you would kind of look at it but unless something else happened, that's why we've got four goalkeepers.

"Young Luca [Gunter], who to be fair has been injured and is not ready, but Fraser I've known for a long time and he's such a strong character within the group and he's ready to play. Brandon [Austin] is improving all the time. Alfie [Whiteman] has also sort of been at the club for a while and whatever has been asked, the training capacity that they bring, we are more than capable with what we've got."

I'm not sure it will be tbh.

Whilst there are some areas that require improvement, in terms of better all round keepers, that are available and not already at clubs competing, there really isn't unless you actually break the bank.

The only one of note, that could potentially be plied away, and who I think is a top keeper is Liverpool's no.2 Kelleher, but is he that much of an upgrade on Vic, certainly not when it comes to shot stopping.

It's Forster's last year I believe so it'll be on the list for the summer, but buying one in January (inevitably pushing the price up) is suboptimal.

So Ange is rating Luca more than other 2 by name checking him first. I also feel Luca Gunter has to be the choice if its not Forster

My son is a goalkeeper and the sh!t they take! Its amazing anybody wants to play this position! The chance for glory is minimal and the responsibility they shoulder is massive. I have so much respect for any professional GK

I thought Sanchez was a pretty decent keeper to be fair?
