Scottish football is a massive drop off though, other than the top sides its the equivalent as league 1/2, but when they played in Europe many times Hart was more criticised

I'm not disputing that but it's not often we will come up against teams that will press us that intensely for fear we will rip them apart. So Forster should have an easy ride passing out most of the time.

Why would they have to be given a chance? I mean if they aren't deemed good enough to play first team then that is that. Now I'm not saying Austin is or isn't in that category, just pointing out that he might just be there for training purposes, and never deemed good enough to push for a starting spot.
I think Austin is fine as a 3rd choice, even to play. Keeping in mind if Forster gets injured we will most certainly have an emergency loan approved. The 3rd goalkeeper only really needs to be someone who can cover a few games maximum without making a meal out of it. Mind we didnt do so well when Alnwick needed to cover temporarily.

The main issue is few good goalkeepers ars available on emergency loan. Even thinking about loaning in january there are issues.

Probably someone like Steele would be the best possible, if Brighton are willing to loan him. For an emergency loan that would be fantastic.

Its quite hard as realistically you want a player with PL experience who will fit in quite quickly, a player that clubs are willing to let go etc.

January is a terrible window to sign goalkeepers and we would be unlikely to sign a good one. A loan to cover Foster, rather than replace him, over January seems logical to me.

Forster will be gone in the Summer, so Lange will just bring forward the recruitment of a back-up.

January TW won't be easy to recruit one, so a loan possibly more likely.

Forster is poor with his feet. Ange system requires a goalkeeper who can pass and play with their feet. If we sit around and 'see if we can muddle through with Forster until Vic is fit again in late Jan cos it's only 8-9 weeks' then our club must be run by fans. Seriously. No-one has a clue how long Vic will be out, we need to confirm our Europa League passage and get through the Carabao QF as well as keep in the hunt for 4th or more before Jan 1st rolls around.

I would not say that Forster is the worst with the ball at his feet but I am worried about his agility. Looks like a robot in goal a lot of the time but better than our other options.

It's bad that we find ourselves in this position which is in my opinion down to the recruitment team.

Definitely think there’s going to be a case of ‘we don’t know what we had until we lost it’ with Vicario, he’s top quality and missing him for a while will show exactly how good he is.
Some fans saying he isn’t good enough was baffling.
Like any player he has deficiencies - his are aerial and physical which are important facets to a keepers game. They have not been remedied in my opinion, I genuinely think he is not being targetted or tested as much - but his agility and shotstopping are top notch - best in country.

The number of 'mistakes' attributed to Vicario on here makes me wonder what all the fuss is about.

All we'll be doing is replacing one not good enough goalkeeper for another :sneaky: :playful:

Daniel Peretz would be great. He is 3rd choice at Bayern Munich but he does well for Israel. Maybe we could loan him in January, as he desperately wants to play regularly. In Summer Nübel is coming back to Bayern too. Maybe there will be a chance to buy Peretz.

The problem witha January loan is they know that as soon as Vic is back they will be on the bench.

A few takes.

vicario has been someone I have wanted to start improving on his weaknesses and have been critical of but I thought frustratingly he had his best game for us on Saturday. He did everything I’ve wanted him to do that’s a player that is growing.

Forster is a good keeper but he isn’t mobile enough and his footwork may struggle with the way we play.

Heads should roll at the club for that summer window and this latest situation reaffirms my thoughts on it.

lastly I feel like a keeper is an area where you can really use data to get a bargain. Maybe even from the lower leagues? We certainly need competition for vicario to ensure his hunger to grow remains the same.
