Nice interview in the Observer. He touches on ‘shouty gate’.

Good that he apologised to Bergvall

It was the 91st minute of the club’s opening game of the season when Lucas Bergvall, the 18-year-old debutant, lost the ball to Leicester’s Stephy Mavididi. He crossed for Wilfred Ndidi, who almost made it 2-1 with a header. Vicario got up after making the save and rushed towards Bergvall, incandescent, channelling his inner hairdryer. Some saluted the passion of the man known as Venom, whereas others criticised him for laying into a youngster. For the record, Bergvall is not the kind of character to allow that – or anything – to affect him.

“I was too aggressive with him and I apologised,” Vicario says. “Maybe it was because we had dominated, then conceded [in the 57th minute] and I had a feeling in the last five minutes – by anything – that we could lose.
“So it’s just to understand where the game is leading us. But it was not the right way in terms of screaming at him. He will understand, he’s a good guy. And it’s part of football. I suffered this, too, when I was a teenager. We are men. We move forward. Maybe my acting at that moment was not the best but the message was for the right reasons and came from the right place.”

He’s a huge problem for us and has been since the City cup game in January.

Predictably terrible on set pieces. So so weak and flappy.

If our goalkeeping options weren’t so poor I’d be saying he needs dropping.

Yep. The negative influence on our ability to defend set pieces is significant, and I can't see how he reverses it, certainly not in the short/medium term.

He probably needs to be dropped even if that does mean we play Forster or Austin. It’s not going to get any better with him.

When ramsdale standard dropped arsenal signed a new keeper. Shame we don't operate like a proper club because if we did he would be under real pressure between now and Jan.
Poor distribution and one of the worst keepers in league for set pieces.

His future surely has to be under consideration

Very good shot stopper.
Not great with the ball at his feet.
Disastrous in the air, and targeted by the entire league.

Nah that's crazy talk, Forster shouldn't even play for Spurs Legends team.
But wouldn't be against us signing someone new to push him.
Have to play until that happens though, cost us some, saves us a lot.

Costs us far more than he saves these days.

The opposite of a calm presence
We saw that with him charging out to berate Bergvall before the break. I don't have a single problem with a player having a go at another player but there are ways of doing it and that looked panicked and can't have been constructive.

Difference between Raya and him is Raya's bottom level is still pretty reliable but Vic becomes a liability on an off day

Goal was 100% on Romero who has also played rather big part on majority on goals we have conceded. We may not have goalkeeping options, but we have options on central defence so dropping Romero is key to conceding less goals

Are we blaming him for the goal, or what's the issue today? I agree he is far from a calming presence, but we handled most corners pretty well except for when they scored, and I genuinely can't see how that one would be on him. I know he came out awkwardly on one other corner, but he still managed to get his fist to it and nothing came of it.

Also, let's not pretend Raya doesn't have mistakes in him. He even had a few iffy moments today.

Romero was pushed in the back. Could have been stronger yes, but that ball was there for Vic to claim, fuck knows what he thought he was doing.

Already said this to a different poster, but there are literally six players between Vicario and Gabriel. There's no chance in the world he could even get close.

Most top keepers would. The balls in the middle of the six yard box. Keepers have to get those. I’m afraid the rest of the league see it and it’s costing us massively. Should be dropped but I’m not sure we have anyone else.
