Pleased to hear this from Mourinho about Lamela and Gio. I hope he has said it with some sincerity though -

"I am happy with Lamela and Gio. Lamela was out for so long, he has been coming back step by step," he said.
"Playing 20 minutes here, half an hour against Liverpool and 90 here. You could see his fitness is coming.
"And Gio again has been step by step. He was so so good against Liverpool and so so good here again. I am happy with the boys. They played with intensity. And I am happy with the result obviously.

There's countless examples of foreign players needing a season to adapt, he's shown enough that's he's capable and that he's going to be a decent player. Sonny didn't even hit double figures in his first season and only scored four league goals. Given time I think Gio will be big for us.

Glad to hear those comments. I really think he’s been effected by Eriksen being here and playing games ahead of him despite wanting to leave the club. It’s not much of a confidence booster being benched for CE with his underwhelming performances. That’s one reason why I hope Eriksen goes, we can finally all move on with GLC and give him a chance to establish himself in the team.

Weird reaction from Gio when Lamela scored - sort of apathetic, "not bovvered" (look at my face...).

They sort of hi fived but it was very subdued. Not like two compatriots who really liked each other.

I'd like Gio to stay with us and be a success. Hope he's happy.

Give him a run of games I say.

I can see why Mourinho might not fancy him though. He gave the ball away last night more times than even Eriksen. May have been nerves or a lack of match time though. But the balls were given away in the middle of the park which isn’t good. It’s ok near their area if he’s trying to make things happen but he needed to be safer on the ball a bit deeper.

He tried to force it a bit too much because he is very positive and loves to constantly move the ball forwards but he will find the right balance with time.

He needs to be played centrally in a midfield 3 (or CAM in 4-2-3-1) for us to see the best of him.

Ironic if Mourinho doesn't like him for giving the ball away considering he seems to love Alli who loses the ball constantly, probably more often than any player in our squad!

Are you the guy who posts "why don't Toby and Jan ever pass to one another?" in every match thread?

Mourinho on how Lo Celso has reacted to his first full 90 minutes in a while

“Yeah, he was [tired], 90 minutes incredible work. Raising his levels in terms of intensity of the game and work with and without the ball. Incredible. Amazing kid. Quiet. Waiting for his opportunities. Opportunities are coming step by step. I am very, very happy with him.

“But yesterday he was tired and that is normal, but I cannot give him a rest. He has to be ready for tomorrow. In this moment to make selection for the squad for every match has been very easy because we have these numbers available.”

Really hope he starts and has a great game against Watford. Feel like he just needs one really strong game where he is creating, getting shots off, etc to where he can establish himself and build confidence.

I like him a lot. Positive player and yes he got tired and gave the ball away a bit but he wanted to move forward, was comfortable in tight spaces on the ball and showed good awareness.

If the internet didn't exist and i had to judge the player based on his performances so far for tottenham. I would be thinking that he is an ok player who would be better suited to playing in a slower and less physical league. However, the internet does exist, the spurs fans have convinced me that he will become a superstar next season for us.

I see your point, but this is what people thought of Modric. He was a hot prospect at Dinamo and played like lo Celso and probably didn't have the performances he had. However he knuckled down and became arguably the best CM in the world once Xavi and Iniesta left Barca.
