I have to admit that the only times that I've seen Lo Celso play have been for us, so I know next to fuck all about him. However, the general consensus here is that he is a central midfield player - an '8' or a '10'. So I'm confused.

Today Mourinho played Sissoko, who he has already said isn't a central midfielder, in a central two with Dier. If he had played Sissoko wide right - probably a better position for him - then Lo Celso could've played in front of Dier. Maybe not his best position, but at least central; and Sissoko would have helped out KWP, so the 'defensive organisation' would have been better.

Alternatively, he could have played Lo Celso as a '10' with Eriksen nominally wide right. Again, Lo Celso would have been in a more suitable position and Eriksen has often started wide and drifted in, so he would - in theory at least - have been more useful there.

I'm not saying that I know more than our manager, but I am at a loss to understand why he chose to play Lo Celso out of position when, given the team that he chose and the formation they played in, he could have put him in a place where he could have contributed more and shown more of what he can do.

#Idontgeddit.

so many says that he should be playing as a 8 or 10. But like ever said, Jose wants an organiser in cm and new players aren’t going to boss the team.

But also, doesn’t he play on the RM for Argentina?

If he can play there for his national team, why can’t he do it for us?

tbh I had high hopes for him for this Bayern game, I thought it was his chance to lay claim to a first xi spot, but I think my own expectations of seeing a younger lamela was not met.

some good touches. But seemed a bit too casual.

Sessegnon said in the champs league presser that José expects to see “more balls” and I don’t think GLC did unfortunately

He plays on the right of a three man CM for Argentina, mostly. Aside from that, I agree with you.

Really struggling to see him as a starter in Jose's team and it's not because of last night either...Looks to me that he's going to have to wait for his chance and be a backup to Dele.
Only way it works is with the right fullback getting really high and a team we’re going to dominate possession on where he and dele can both play #10 together. Never going to work with KWP & against a team like Bayern.

From what I've seen so far Jose wants to play direct counter attacking football with two quick wide men, not sure where Gio fits in that.

I agree with you. Only thing is JM likes players who are flexible, and still influence. Would be very harsh to start knocking him after arriving with no ore-season, then injury, then change of manager, who are finding each other out.

I think himself and Tanguy are amongst the best signings we have made for many years and I think they will probably both need the best part of 18 months to settle in. I honestly can see them both playing in a three but also GLC playing more advanced too. There are, however, some increasingly obvious holes in our squad and I relaiseJosé has said he is “happy” with the squad and also there have been stories about having little on the way of money to spend but I do think those areas need addressing sooner rather than later.

Was just browsing their new manager thread as was told they were all pining after Poch and came across a poster with your username. Was just wondering, no need for the wise guy response dude.

Make it permanent in January if we can save £8m by doing so. We’ll likely at least make Europa so it becomes permanent anyway

If we sign him in Jan we can also sell him in summer if it doesn't work. Not sure we can sign him and sell him in the same summer?
Of course I hope it works out for him. He had a difficult job last night but I still fancy he can play that inside right role when we're not pinned back so much. In the long run I think Jose will want quality defensive fullbacks and pace in wide attack. If that happens he'll have to be used in the role of Alli or possibly as an 8 alongside a defensive midfielder.

From the few opportunities he's had I don't think he fits into what Jose wants & I'd be surprised if he wasn't looking at options for sending him back.

Having said that if he's going to play anywhere I think it should be the centre of the 3 with 2 pacey players either side of him because he doesn't get back enough to help our RB which is why I think KWP was so exposed during the game.

We think a lot of him as a player at the club and we will give him the platform he requires to succeed.
He is well regarded by all including Jose and definitely not looking to give back.
Hope this helps clear up our thinking as it stands today. :)
