Basically it seems the loan is a way for Betis to not pay the sell on clause to PSG. If we qualify for CL again then it's an obligation to buy, but if we don't get CL then it becomes an option only.

@KILLA_SIN explained earlier - basically

So Levy engineers a loan deal with a guaranteed obligation to buy. Functionally, that’s not much different than buying the player outright. However it does

  • Increases the total bid amount so Betis are happier with the overall fee
  • Structures the deal so that Spurs presumably are able to pay less up front than what they normally would
  • Screws over PSG by having what is probably a fairly large loan fee (maybe something close to the amount that Spurs wanted to pay up front for Lo Celso anyway), which then reduces the total purchase price, thereby making their 20% cut smaller.
57M is the total fee, 16m the loan fee
16M comes off the 57 Leaves 41M [Obligation to buy]
Pay 20 percent of the profit of the sale to PSG above the 25m they paid originally
Leaves 16M x 20 percent [Percentage of next sale]
3.2M to PSG

VOILA!

The exact numbers might be off but the formula still works.

What confuses me a little bit, did Betis literally think of the way around the PSG fee in the last one or two days? We've literally had no ITK's indicating to a possible loan.

Great signing, plays very similar to VDV with a lot more mobility and bite...maybe just a little less flair....chuffed with this one

What happened to the Bruno Fernandes deal? He's was crying and all sorts in the last game saying goodbye?

I'm pretty sure it's European football altogether, so even if we get EL it's an obligation

We have an option to buy.

For that to be effective in legal terms, that means Betis have an obligation to sell to Spurs, and only to Spurs, if we exercise our buy option.

So no, no one else can buy him unless Spurs give their permission.

Ok, but what about if the player refuses to join, doesn't that render the option to buy useless?

Pretty sure Southampton had that with Toby, then he rejected them when we came along offering more money.

Could that situation happen with us?

No way levy signs a contract like that. The power will be with us

Also I'd imagine the player has already agreed to the contract should we take up our option/obligation if we make europe

Was it not that Southampton took their eye off the ball and missed the deadline for activating the purchase or something like that...
