Such a great transfer. Our midfield options last year caused us so many problems.

  • We had to change our formation to accomodate the inadequacies of who we had at our disposal
  • We put pressure on our defence by not having players good on the ball
  • We struggled to break the lines with a pass or a dribble, so key to Poch’s style
  • We dropped Alli into a deeper role where he’s far less effective and can’t get in scoring positions
  • Eriksen, too, as above

The signings of Ndombele and Lo Celso are going to transform our play towards what Poch wants, increase our tactical flexibility, make us a stronger defensive unit and increase the number of chances we create.

It’s superb business.
Obviously Dybala would be the cherry on top but you're spot on. These two signings give us that platform to be as solid as 16/17.
Lo Celso will breathe new life into our attack too, more tenacious and better in tight spaces than Eriksen so we should be strong in possession and final third play.
Sess offers variation as he can play LB and be pushed further up - he's also a scoring outlet.

It gives us the platform to now add a special player in future

I understand the rationale but curious - So why not just give 59m as a loan fee so to speak... then we get him for 'free' next year
because a loan fee is generally paid upfront rather than staggered over years. That would have been what Betis wanted, we wanted to pay the minimum up front fee. Hence 2 months to get to an agreement of how much the lump sum payment was that we could afford and they would accept

Who owns the player until then, officially?
I guess Betis officially, but only in the same way that a car dealership still owns a car while you’re paying for the PCP arrangement until such time that you have to pay a lump sum to take it completely.

Sorry, I was having a sly dig at a section of the membership here that always seem to want Levy to "pay what it takes to get it done" rather than take his time to get the best deal for Spurs. Sometimes I understand the squad integration argument, but in this particular case the player's been on holiday for virtually all of pre-season anyway.

Fair do's - I'm fed up with those people too

I think the great thing about this guy and Ndombélé is that even though they will take up nominally central positions, with their dribbling and energy if played on their correct sides I can see them doubling up on fullbacks with our fullbacks, in turn allowing the front three to contest the opposition area.

Yep. But I bought my motor with cash all up front ?

You listening via on demand or something?

No, got a pounding headache, been half snoozing, flicked on the tail end of Hawksbee & Jacobs and they went to Cracknell who just recapped.

I like the sound of my own voice and I hadn't posted in, like, 45 seconds, i needed to make noise.

As much as it would be nice to get a big fee for Eriksen, I'd quite like him to see out the season just to see how we play with both him and Lo Celso in the team. With those 2 on the pitch our tactical flexibility, creativity and ball retention will be so much better and will hopefully prove the importance of having more than 1 intelligent, creative midfielder.

Sadly this signing will probably mean we never will see Danny Rose in central midfield again. Shame.
