To be fair it happens almost in every club but our history suggest us why we feel different. Either we don't sign someone or if we do rarely quality players. Usually it is substandard.

If only we could sign a few decent players.

Like Son, for example, or Lucas Moura. Or maybe Jan Vertonghen or Toby Alderweireld perhaps.

Or Sissoko? Or someone like Moussa Dembele, or Tanguy Ndombele to replace him would be nice.

Or Rafa Van der Vart. Or Hugo Lloris.

Or top class youngsters like Danny Rose maybe, or Gareth Bale, or Davinson Sanchez.

But no, not us. We only sign substandard p[layers.

Yeah, don't you just hate the way we consistently sign awful players. Son, Ndombele, Alli, Wanyama, Toby, Eriksen, Lucas, Sanchez...it's just shite upon shite every season.

In all seriousness, sure we've signed a few duds, namely Janssen, Fazio, Nkoudou, Wimmer, Soldado etc, but all things considered our hit rate is pretty damn good.

Even "average" signings like Chadli, Wimmer, Tripper (mixed bag) and Holtby are often sold for a whopping profit.

If you compared our business to every other club I'd say we're easily in the top 10-20% for making good value, smart deals in the transfer market overall.

If we weren't doing good business how the fuck would we consistently be in the Champions League?

To count few players on finger tips you have to go to 2000s. That is what I said "rarely quality players".

If you want to use terms like " rarely...", it helps to look at a reasonably extended period of time to see whether it's true. In my example I've gone back and come right up to date, with an even spread throughout the period.

Of course, if you want to restrict "rarely" just to the examples that suit your argument, feel free, but you won't come out with a very persuasive case.

Our last two signings were Moura and N'Dombele. Not counting Jack Clarke, an interesting prospect. Are they sub-standard?

No club, as in no club on earth, has avoided making some disappointing signings. Do you honestly believe that over a sensible time frame our signings have been worse than average, as implied in your choice of the word "sub-standard"?

And what, by the way, has that to do with GLC? Do you think he's a sub-standard target?

We’ve all been here before.

Coming towards the end of the window, most of us frustrated by the lack of activity (Ndombele excepted on this occasion) whilst some still hold it together it expecting something to happen by deadline day.

And yet when deadline day’s insanity happens, even those of us resigned to expecting no transfers are secretly hoping a late breaking story for us and an exceptional player will appear on the SSN ticker.

And yet it turns 11pm and we still refresh the BBC Sport transfer page hoping for us to be the “one more signing registered with the Premier League but as yet we don’t know which club...”.

So we wake the following morning and there are no stories about Spurs and even those hopeful fans optimism turns to dust. Anger, retribution, the inevitable #LevyOut and #BackPoch trends follow.

If you have no expectations, you can’t be disappointed...

The Rafa signing ruined us all, giving false hope for those last-second deals!

People comparing our transfer dealings to ManU is really annoying when defending the club. Because the same people using ManU's dealings as a defense would also say that Woodward is a moron when it comes to anything regarding football.

Everton are getting signings done in a timely manner, Arsenal are, West Ham have, fucking Newcastle have signed more first team players than us. Its complete bullshit at this point.

I'm not playing victim I'm calling out BS when I see it. I'm also pointing out that you and others on here claim that we have difficulty getting deals done... That clubs move the goal posts.. But other teams get the business done. Take that how you wish. It smacks of an excuses mentality... PAL.

Ok, cheers. (y)

You probably don’t need to get so angry about things you and I have little clue about.

The point is you don’t know how long the News aggregators for other clubs have been posting about transfer rumours as you have little interest in it. It’s hardly a stretch to say that?

Therefore you don’t come from a position of knowledge of how long other clubs take.

Again, that’s not really a stretch to say that.

I'm 99.9% positive that there wasn't almost three months of public rumors regarding Pepe, Saliba, Ceballos, Haller, Fornals, Joelinton, Maxim, Gbamin, etc.

I check /r/soccer almost everyday and they post all of these rumors so I do get an idea of how long these deals are in the public as everything the premier league does transfer rumor wise makes it on the front pages.

another panic poster that isn't happy because Lewis and Levy won't throw their own money at anything and everything, and get the club in debt in hope to win a fucking CoC trophy
Do you root for the bank accounts or the team on the field, I forget?

Were not going to fucking fold as a club if we pay what Betis want on Lo Celso. Or if we actually think we need to sell Eriksen to buy Lo Celso (still very possible) we wouldn't fold if we just had both.

There has to be Lighty... What we went after was players we had to Google to lend a term from Rose. We tried for De Jong last season. Surely Ndombele was the next option. I agree that we must not drop to a level like an option C/D player.

Aargh anyway this window is finally drawing to its close. We can get back to squabbling about player X etc.

you would hope there was, but we haven't heard of any, and I think last year not clogging up with plan B's because if they fail they are so much harder to shift
