Just think if we meet the asking price - we'll have 50 more pages of if 'will we meet his and his reps. terms' ... The utter joy of a Spurs transfer window.

This is all well and good but this player went for 22m only a little while ago. Where were our scouts and Poch then? We are seeminlgy always late to the party. N'Dombele is the other one.

When Poch refused to buy in the last two windows both the Argentinian and the Frenchman were much much cheaper!!

Now we are getting rogered for a princely sum.

How many similar players are out there now that we could get at reasonable prices before they break out and are the Lo Celsco and N'Dombele of next season or the season after? Or is our coaching set up so piss poor that the scouts can only spot the bleeding fucking obvious. Maybe they should spend some time indoors playing FIFA 19.

Fucks sake, 85% of this board have been talking about Tanguy for a year or more.

When I look at our youth set up and the crap coming up through there, I think it would be better if Levy went out and bought the scouting team from Betis, Ajax or Benefica. That would be a better transfer window then the last three put together.
Two of our strongest transfer links currently are Sessegnon and Clarke.

Playing devils advocate, Poch has been VERY clear that we need to change the way we operate. Are you saying he’s wrong?

No not at all. But there is a difference in going for players at the right time based on a good scouting system. You sign them on potential before the market catche on rather then getting caught in a bidding war or being held to ransom. Betis know we have no choice. This is a Poch target. Levy is doing his best to acquire the player but its breaking our operating model. Is Lo Celsco worth 70M or 80M quid? I think he is a 50M player max. I think once Poch works his magic we will see an incredible talent. The question is do we pay over the odds now?

I think these days that is all done first. No point squabbling with chairmen over fees only to have the player demand insane wages.

Ergo my point earlier my learned friend. That is the Spurs model. Buying superstars before they are superstars. That is not what we are doing now.

The problem is though that, what was "our" model has now become the model for all clubs bar the wealthiest of the wealthy. The talent identification methods we used (and perhaps copied from Southampton) are now used in a lot of clubs so competition is greater and the value isn't as easily achievable.

I think we're doing well. We've missed out on a few good players and we've missed out on a few turkeys but we've just played in a CL final and we've finished top 4 again with comparatively little in the way of investment.

Please, I want to worry about something that in the bigger picture doesn't actually effect me, please, let me have this.

I agree with the need to spend completely, but I think it's extremely optimistic to think that we'll sign Ndombele and Lo Celso, keep Eriksen and do the other business that we need to do, and that's what slightly worries me. We could end up with a strong central midfield, but still weak in the full back positions.

If we did sign these two, plus do what else we arguably need to that'd end up looking something like:

Ndombele: £70m
Lo Celso: £70m
Sessegnon: £30m
A bloody good right back: £35m+?
A wide/central forward: £40m+?
Clarke/young up and coming: £10-15m?

There's no way on earth we're going to end the summer with a net spend of £200+ million. It's just not going to happen, and if we keep Eriksen, the other potential outgoings would surely only total £60-70m at the most.

I think we will lose Eriksen.

However I think we need to spend at least £200m on our squad, regardless or whether he goes or not.

A keyboard warrior?! What?!

You're throwing left and right hooks at everyone who disagrees with you lmao.

And for your information, that took me a whole 3 minutes to make. When you're not a dinosaur, you can get things like that done pretty quickly.

So your not a dinosaur! Most intelligent thing youve said so far.

Very early to have reports of fees etc agreed but I suppose this summer may be the exception to the rule.

Question should be , if the player in question is so good, why not pay over the odds to get him now ?
Why do we have to go for budget players like Nkoudou & Janssen and wasting 25m+salaries and end up unable to sell them after 3 years ?
Lets not try to be cute and penny pinch. In the end both will work out the same - only we get a player who will be in starting XI & not sit at home or on loans

Try to keep up my little padawan
You're the one who doesn't know the difference between you're and your.

You're telling me to keep up, and generally attempting to be quite condescending when, i'm sorry to have to tell you this, everyone is laughing at you in this thread. You just keep embarrassing yourself with every reply you make to me pal.

I'd love us to spend the money. Please don't confuse my belief that we won't have a net spend of £200m with a lack of willingness to do so! If we brought in Lo Celso, Ndombele, Bale, Sessegnon and Wan Bissaka whilst keeping Eriksen and Toby, I think we would be pretty well placed to mount a title challenge. I'm just trying to be realistic, and I can't see it happening.

We have just got 240 odd million from Premier league and our UCL run...... so maybe just maybe we are going all out

very similar situation with Real Madrid today signing Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt ( looked a real player v Chelsea) for £52 million - EF only signed him in April , activating a clause ,for £6.2 million !
