Expect to see United linked to every good player this summer, they have money and need a big rebuild, agents / clubs will use them the same way we've been used over the years for new contracts.
If you were to believe whats written in the media, United would have a squad size of over 200 players!. Bit difficult shoe horn this into a squad of 25.

Do people really think a young Argentinian player is going to sign for OGS to play in the Europa league rather than for his compatriot Poch in the CL?

If Utd agree a fee and we don't he won't have a choice. Also, Betis to Man Utd is still a pretty decent career move for any footballer.

Get a feeling United are going to get bloody annoying by the end of this window.
They’re also the perfect agent fodder to prod negotiations and get a club worried about price haggling. Bit shite, expected turnover on roster, loads of money, easy to just toss into the fill-in-the-blank transfer stories.

If they are prepared to pay Betis a higher fee than we are (as well as higher wages to him) then yes, I do think he would go to Utd

All it says is they are 'willing' to pay the 75 million euro's ... Considering their other purported targets fuck a duck.

'Sorry, thanks for the offer and all those wages and bonuses Ole, but it's a no from me, I'm going wait and see if Danny Levy can match the fee before August.'

You want to know what's less funny than Levy being Levy? People rolling out the same fucking tired old fucking jokes in every thread when we're linked to a player.

If that were the case, Messi’s motorcycle would have been parked in the NWHL parking garage since five years ago. (Okay, not young but he does have the body of a 23 year old the way he’s playing)

In all seriousness, while our CL qualification can serve as a cherry on top of any potential deal, money either paid upfront or stashed in performance clauses (think +++ in wages if you get us back to the CL!) can easily sway a player over. As much as players can be gloryhounds, they have to make the most out of their limited time playing and would rationally pick a higher-paying contract if so offered.

Presume this wont be concluded either way until after the COPA now? May as well take a couple of weeks off and save ourselves the daily anguish...

/watch every Argentina game and hope he doesn't get injured nor plays too well that he attracts more attention..!
Madrid announced both Hazard & Jovic while on international duty.

International duty is a top-tier transfer window excuse. It's 2019, there's no reason these things can't be done wherever, as other clubs prove.
This is our biggest problem. We never take responsibility for getting players in. It's always something or someone else's fault.

United are in a similar position to us on the recruitment front with them needing an overhaul. But at least they know they have a problem. We're still in denial.

I fear it's going to need us to come crashing down to earth with a big reality check for us to realise.

Hold on, i've got to pull you up on this.

Yes we have made mistakes in the past with transfers, especially the last 2 seasons, but to say we are in denial?? What gives you that idea??

We are normally sporadically linked with 10's maybe 100's of players every window. Currently we are constantly being linked with 2 players, daily, Ndom and Le Celso. ITK have backed this up, they have also backed up the funds aspect. The papers are actually mentioning proper figures in their reports.

This never happens with us this early on. So to me, this shows we are not in denial, it shows that Poch knows what areas that need sorting, it also shows that (at the minute) Daniel Levy is backing his manager seriously.

Sorry to pick on you, but you were the last post and it boiled my piss!!

It would be embarrassing for Spurs to miss out on Ndombele and Lo Chelso now. We've pinned our colours to the mast and said, "These are the players we are after...."

If we don't now secure their respective services, how's it going to look to the football world? Embarrassing.

No way we don't get them both.
Clubs miss out on players all the time. Even the likes of Man City and Real Madrid can't always have their way. It's not embarrassing, it's business.

Unless We means the fans, you're talking out of your arse.

Either that or you're on every transfer call between Levy and Poch

The examples of Hazard and Jovic are quite different between a confirming singings for two players who Madrid have been following/negotiating with for 3/4/5/6 months. Not to mention that both transfers were completed before the Euro qualifiers started. I'm talking about major continental tournaments, camps are training hard, focusing on tactics, fitness, focus. No way they just let a variety of clubs waltz in to talk to players about signings now.

How many players can you name that have completed contract negotiations, medicals etc whilst away at a major tournament? It might happen on a very rare occasion, but its not like he's in Belgium just a short hop on Eurostar, he's in Brazil, the heart of the enemy locked down in tournament mode. Yes we can agree a fee with the club but a lot of moving parts of permissions and access to the player, agent, international camp set up etc before we can complete medicals, get him to sign a contract etc.

I'm not saying its impossible, just that its highly likely this doesn't get done until after COPA, just think we should manage expectations or else this thread is going to self combust with impatience.

My point on Utd is potentially backed up by the fact that they are exploring recruitment restructuring options. Now whether that will work or not is irrelevant. The point is to be trying to change things they are acknowledging there's a problem. Despite the failure of the last two windows we've seen no evidence thus far of a concrete change in approach, whether that's for example a DOF coming in or officially confirming signings that we as a club would previously never be able to make.

We haven't signed a single player since January 18. Maybe just maybe Pochettino doesn't want any players whatsoever, but this is a very silly inference to make.

So if we are not going to infer that then he's wanted and is wanting players and is not getting them. The question then turns to why.

I take your point about the links, but this all means nothing until the said players are officially signed and through the door.
