The defensive stats are key for me, awesome to have that tenacity in the front 4. Similar to Lamela in that sense.
Both were schooled and had their first playing experiences in the Argentinian league, which has no room for slackers.

Reminds me a little of Lamela. Has the same grit, the same fight. Is silky on the ball and can spot a pass. Drifts out wide, especially to the right. The similarities are there.

I adore Lamela's panache, so Lo Celso looks like he might be right up my street after what he showed us today.

He's also from Argentina, so that maybe why.

I get where people are coming from with the must start Saturday comments, but let’s remember this is first start in months, he has hardly any minutes under his belt, and there were times in the game where he was seriously blowing. Reality is he probably won’t start, but that’s not the end of the world. The positive he’s ready now, and he looks like he’s going to fit in perfectly.

I agree with much of this but for one thing, I sincerely hope he does not end up with Lamela's injury record over the next 4 -5 years !

Somebody needs to have a word with him. Two corners and he didn't hit the first defender with either one. And I'm sure I saw him tracking back in the second half. He just won't fit in. Gotta go.

I'd still start with him on Saturday even if it meant 50 or 60 minutes for him. I'd rather that than hanging around waiting for Eriksen to do something which will almost certainly be the alternative. That way he gets as much time on the pitch as he can manage and gets his match fitness up.

I did like the way he was telling other players where to go, only 23 but acting like an experienced pro, bodes well for the future.

A lot like Lamela in those respects.

5 successful tackles most in our team, including a couple back in RB position. Hats off to him for a great all round performance.

I noticed that as well. I love seeing that kind of thing happening and for one so young to feel at ease that it's profession to do so only bodes well for the future. Going to be a star

I think we all need to be patient. He scored a lovely goal last night with great control that allowed him to get the finish away, but aside from that I didn’t see anything game changing from him. What am I missing that others saw last night? (Genuine question)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not slating him, I just think we should all temper our expectations until he is properly settled.

Snagged from Sky sports - just have a look at those stats from last nights game! That was his first start and easily the most minutes he has been on the pitch for us.
Giovani Lo Celso's performance in stats
  • 102 touches (1st)
  • 79 passes (3rd)
  • Three crosses (1st)
  • Three shots (3rd)
  • Five tackles (1st)
  • Eight recoveries (2nd)

He has that smooth silky south american way of passing and carrying the ball. It will be interesting to see how he develops and what his best position will be. I can see him playing a number of different roles.

For me is was the quick (often correct) decisions, instant ball control and umpteen slide rule passes to put other players into great positions to make something happen, particularly Foyth.

A front four of Son, Dele, Lo Celso and Kane sounds great. Dier and Ndombele behind, attacking full backs and things are looking good again.

Not perfect but a start and players who actually want to prove themselves and play for the club.
Dele great depth but only through the middle of Kane. No good deeper or out wide

This. One of the main criticisms I have of Poch is he let's games drift too long and before you know it, we're 1 nil down with 20 mins to go before we actually start trying to score. I'd much rather we try and blow teams away and then rest a few

One of the main plusses from last night (IMO) was his movement off the ball. He was always finding little pockets of space and then, once he'd made a pass, he was off on his bike again. He also tracked and tackled all night and formed a good understanding with Foyth. He'll certainly have much tougher games to come, but for a debut in what is generally considered a tough place to play, I think he was excellent.
