Can't believe after a hard fought point away to the best team around by a country mile people are criticising the performance. We had the odd additional chance, rode our luck, showed incredible resilience and had to cope with loads of pace and KDB having a worldy. Seriously what do you expect against a team with a bench full of £50m players financed by a country?? Reality check needed.
Got to agree with that. The reaction from some last week was way OTT. Fair enough if we played the same at home today but context and all that.

I know Poch has said that we need to be patient with him, but I just want to throw him in there. We waited long enough to sign him, I want to see him playing.
Pretty much every other team have thrown their big signings in from the off, I think Poch makes a bit much of this settling in thing.

It'll be interesting to see whether his words were slightly misinterpreted, he may have just meant that he's far away from the levels he believes Lo Celso can get to physically and still willing to put him in now or he be saying he won't be starting for a long time. We'll see.

He gave his reasons though.

He was signed late, late holiday break after Copa America, no pre-season and weeks behind the squad in training.

I think these things mean something, don’t you?

I expect to see him today, maybe on the bench. Frustrating as it would be, especially with Tanguy out, the manager can’t be ruled by emotions in the way we can.

Given he already came on against City and we still have players out, he'll certainly be on the bench at least.

Personally I'd like to see him start but mostly because I'm impatient and want to see our shiny new signing. I suppose he's more likely to get away with a rusty performance against a team like Newcastle at home, so it might be a relatively risk free way of getting him match fit and help him to adapt to the league/new team.

In reality I bet Poch will bring him on around 70-odd minutes, giving him a longer cameo than against City but still easing him in gradually.

I think (but I don’t know) that the biggest problem in playing anyone too soon isn’t so much a poor performance but the risk of picking up an injury due to lack of match fitness.

I hope he plays, but I won’t be cross if he doesn’t.

That's how I'd interpret it.

Ah interesting, I hadn't really thought about it that way. I always assumed that was more the case when a player was coming back from injury, but I can also see how it could be the case.

Yeah, I agree and although I haven't absolutely no basis for it, I think Lo Celso is one of those naturally fit players. Like a little terrier.
I also think that with a cloud still hanging over Eriksen, we need to get him up to speed as quickly as possible.

I think it's more the fact that the team needs to play like a fluid unit and if you've essentially never played together and likely barely know your teammates' names then he doesn't want him starting which makes sense.

We've seen plenty of very good players take time to bed in under Poch.

It’s way too early to judge him yet, but he had zero effect on the game this afternoon which was very disappointing. He wasn’t alone in that, but I didn’t see anything from him that Lamela wasn’t already offering when Poch took him off.

Shot just wide and assist to what shouldve been a kane penalty. WAYYYY too early to judge him mate.

While I do appreciate players who come in to a side with great chemistry and don’t want to rock the boat...I wish he’d have shown some alpha when he came on and tried something since no one else was.

Also he is not a RW/RAM. He’s a n.o 8, 10 or CAM so wasn’t quite the right fit for him today.

I’m hoping erisken goes and once he does lo celso becomes our 8/10 alongside ndombele or just ahead of him.

So agree with that, I was thinking the same, we are 1-0 it’s your home debut, have some confidence and alpha about you to try something, like a through ball to Kane or a shot which went just wide you know try things ;)

Heads not in it and it’s unsettling the squad so better out the door. Fergie would’ve don’t the same.
@Mark_147 @Dinghy id like to know what you think the benefits are of keeping CE if he doesn’t sign a new contract. You’re keeping an unhappy unmotivated player and then losing him on a free in the summer whilst further unsettling the squad keeping said player around. People like you guys think football is like fucking football manager or Fifa and it’s all about just playing the best players, squad harmony and togetherness is almost n.o1 importance, you need everyone pulling in the same direction.

Someone has to be prepared to sign him first!
