just like Gil, they just can't do it in PL

Disagree. We never played to their strengths. Gio and Gil thrive on pass and move. We didn’t have the players around them to do this. We still have this problem. Our players wait for the ball to come to them after they pass rather than moving into space and constantly being on the move. Also Gil was always played as a winger which he has never been. Wasted opportunities and our loss.

I would imagine there is frustration on both parts regarding his Spurs career. We have been a circus the last few years, but equally his fitness record was a big problem.

Either way he is a great player and will prove that again at Betis - shame it couldn't happen here.

Agree fitness has been an issue for him, the bit I really struggle with is the back half of last season where he was fit and available but got only small cameos, and did well in them, when our midfield was crying out for someone that could move the ball and make a pass.

So why there isn't a single PL club want either of them considering the low asking price? Villa was linked but never materialized

We don’t know for sure who was after them. We know Villa were but just because it hasn’t been reported in the media doesn’t mean there was no interest. Also the players might not have been interested.

Scored both goals in a 2-1 win yesterday on his second debut for Real Betis. We never saw the best of him at Spurs.

He has more ability than many of the players left in our squad but for whatever reason only ever showed glimpses in England....

It does seem odd as Ange didn’t seem to want to give him a chance at all.

And he isn’t the first manager here not to fancy him either.

It all seemed very strange to me.

Come on you know that's a stupid way of thinking. Brighton who are generally very good at scouting sold Gyokeres for about 1m to Coventry, then they sold him for about 20m to Sporting and now he's a very highly rated player who teams might pay close to 100m for. If he's that good why didn't Brighton keep him? Selling him for 1m means he's crap right? Why didn't anyone sign Mahrez when he went on to win the PL player of the season? Why did he go to Leicester for £500k? Surely a player bought from the frnech second division for only £500k could never be that good right? Why did Pep not want Palmer who was one of the best forwards in the country last season? And why was nobody else in for Palmer at that price?

Likewise you can do the opposite. Why did Man U pay £80m for Antony when he's nowhere near that good? Johnson cost £50m and Palmer was 40m, surely that means Johnson's a better player right if the club decided to go for someone else who cost more money? If the club decided to renew Werner's loan that early surely that means Werner's a very good forward right? Then let's not forget Chelsea, they've been a joke with their spending for years. Surely if they spent hundreds and hundreds of millions it means they know what they're doing and won't waste it right? Never because a club would never make a mistake like that, that'd be stupid and when you're spending hundreds of millions you have to know exactly what you're doing right.

Clubs aren't omniscient, they can't tell the future and it turns out that because the most popular sport in the world has several billion people that like it and the top few thousand players in the world who play at the highest level (which makes them one in a million) are actually pretty good if you play in a system that they're good in and get the best out of. Guy was one of the best midfielders in spain when he was bought, has been one of argentina's best and most important player going from what I've read from argentine supporters too. Maybe they saw his injury history and didn't want to chance it, I don't know, but GLC is a quality player and I will always maintain that. First season here he was one of very few carrying this team against its will to results at times and he's had terrible injury problems, went away on international duty and came back injured again, probably because he wasn't fully fit. Shit happens, didn't turn out well but that's life, it happens sometimes

The second is an absolute worldie, Betis have got an absolute bargain.

First was a pen and the second was a massive deflection.

Cant claim to have watched the game so no idea how he's been playing but whether he does well isn't a knock on us. There's so much that goes into making a player a success at a club beyond "hes a good player", sometimes it doesnt work.

Lo celso was here a while, it was time to freshen things up probably for him as well as us, if he does well then great for him, and hopefully we kick on also.

Barcelona wanted gio but went for Olmo
Of course. Why buy a player for no more than 10m who you want but then pay 60m for you second choice.
If Lo Celso was a top player he wouldn’t be at Betis. Perhaps he likes to be the top dog in a small club.
He had one good season, same as Ndombele. Nightmare signings.

Am not going to compare Gio to Gil as different players. With Gio maybe he was just unlucky with injuries, or he didnt fancy the prem, but he was one of my fave players. He is a top player, but sadly a lot of top players seem to come and go from spurs without winning anything here

At this Lo Celso will be getting a big money move again = a hefty sell on bonus for Spurs
