To be fair, he can go on to have another great season in Spain, Betis in a year could be in trouble money wise, and I could see someone offering £20mill for him. In that case, we get £15mill in total, plus the arrangement for the other dude.

I think it's a decent deal tbh. 5m guaranteed now, if we consider Cordoso worth say 40m after this season we can activate and we're essentially making up 10m on the GLC sale, if GLC is sold down the line we also get 50%, if we don't sign Cordoso however and he doesn't get sold for much then I guess it's a shit one. Certainly one we're taking a gamble on but you've got 2 chances to make some extra money, GLC sell on or a player purchase next year. I'm just glad we've got GLC off the books now.

We’ve said for years to be more aggressive on outgoings and take losses to get certain players out of the squad. This is what that looks like.

This deals great regardless of the Fee or agreement for Cardoso! Lo Celso is on high wages and was never going to feature this season!

Up there with Ndombele for me in terms of absolutely rubbish transfers. Will be glad to move on.
While I agree with you in hindsight, were you not excited at the time? I thought we needed more business that Summer but thought Ndombele as Dembele's successor, Lo Celso as Eriksen's, and Sess as a LW/LB prospect was brilliant business. It's of course our luck that all three ended up being whiffs for their own reasons.

Of course, on paper it was a great signing. As was Ndombele, I dont think i've been more excited for a signing in years than i was for him. Lots of different reasons for their respective failures but when you look at the fees involved they're both hugely, hugely disappointing transfers.

The worst thing about lo celso was that it was a loan with an option and mourinho at one point was not going to do it, but lo celso had a mini run and we executed it, only for it to go pretty much downhill ever since due to his injuries.
If only he could stay fit i think he would have been a really good buy, but it’s just our luck that he was a crock.

I really wouldn't have been that fussed. Nothing I've seen tells me he'd be a brilliant player in this country.
His performances, albeit rare, indicated he was of not brilliant at least very good. Injuries and perhaps a persoanlity flaw that didn't impress Ange are the marks against him rather than his ability.

Imo.

Ndombele 10 goals 9 assists. Lo Celso 10 goals 8 assists. He's statistically worse than Ndombele. The fact that some of our fans still rate him is genuinely baffling.
The fact that Lo Celso has managed to maintain a trophy-laden international career during this period, makes him perversely more insulting.

I do find it quite funny that he always seemed to be fit for Argentina but was injured when they won the world cup.
