I think there is an above average player who through a mixture of circumstances hasnt lived up to his potential and ability.
It really doesnt matter who we sell to because HE IS NOT good enough for us.
We need to sell him, and others for as much as we can get and in turn sign players who ARE good enough for us.

Ive seen some argue that they would accept less money for him to go abroad. Why?? that extra few mil might be the difference between someone who comes in and we class it as a solid 7 out of 10 singing, or an 8.
I think the team Ange is putting together is going to be less about individuals needing to be 9 out of 10 players than there being a team of 7 and 8's. Sum of their parts and all that

Whoever bids the highest, just accept and get rid. He's no use to us, and it doesn't matter if he turns out good for someone else. At least it shows we don't just sell duds and that we can offer value from our unwanted players to other teams.

A fair few?? Help me out here what did I miss?? When you look at players who have been here a similar amount of time. His contribution has been next to nothing. We all clamoured for him to play. And then he either did nothing. Or got injured.
Last season to name a few, best player on the pitch against Bournemouth, won us the game against Brighton with two incredible plays, 1 assist and one to put son through,
Incredible against city away 100% pass accuracy whilst also having the most created chances, scored an incredible goal,
Was part of the best of the best our midfield has looked when him and Benta tore villa to shreds.
Look absolutely quality every Time he came on.
Was our most progressive passer last season.
I get he’s failed here but he was very good when he played last season

He is not too bad, surely there must be some club around who values him at 15-20m. Get that spanish clubs are skint. Still they somehow are close to sign players like Gallagher for double money...

But that’s the issue. We’d love to see a run of games to judge him. He’s never fit for Spurs, but is miraculously fit for national team selection.

I think he was fit enough on many of the occasions when he never made the squad or got on the pitch. Other players just got the nod because they'd been training longer. On the odd occasion Ange was forced to pick him I think he did really well but he was frequently overlooked in favour of much less talented players when we needed a spark which was pretty infuriating imo.

But why was he “overlooked”?

A top pro, training well, looking after himself and regularly representing his (world champions) national team doesn’t get “overlooked” by his club team unless he’s doing something wrong.

Albeit gossip, there was several stories at the time stating that GLC was very reluctant to train unless he felt 100% fit. His time to step-up was in Maddison’s absence.

I don't know why he was overlooked, just like I don't know why Hojbjerg was always first off the bench even when we needed a bit of creativity or players were replaced on the pitch when they were bossing it. Can only assume Ange had his reasons but it's hard to work out what they were sometimes

Ange has been clear he wants players with the right attitude, even PEH who we knew wanted to go got a lot of game time.

Lo Celso was fit for the back end of last season and mainly overlooked, he clearly hasn't got the right attitude (and never has for us).

We sell him to the highest bidder, if we even get a bid at this stage. I'd be surprised if we got more than 10m at this point.

For his own career he should go back to Spain imo, he seems like he's never really adapted to England. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he rejects a move to Villa. (If they came in)

I just don’t see how Ange could have overlooked GLC during the Maddison absence if he was fit and well prepared.

We were crying out for a creative influence. A player to stitch together an attack. Someone to assist the assister or to be a direct source of G/A. We literally had no one else who has this skill-set in Madders absence.

Unfortunately, and not for the first time. When the challenge was laid down, GLC was not reliable (or fit) enough to be called upon.

So not only does a circa £50m international not start, he then can't be relied upon as a squad option either.

Sell! Cut our losses and get rid.

There were plenty of times he was on the bench but stayed there. If he wasn't fit he wouldn't have been there. As I said, I don't know why he was ignored in favour of Hojbjerg more often than not. He turned games around when he did get a chance though.

Buying power is completely irrelevant. I've listed players there that City sold to Chelsea, two clubs who you say can both practically buy up the market so are a similar level.

If this were a regular starter for us who we desperately wanted to keep I'd have different feelings about this but it isn't. Refusing to sell a player we don't want and isn't going to play to the highest bidder really is the definition of cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Fans moan and moan and moan about what we need to do to improve but when push comes to shove they throw in so many caveats on how that improvement has to take place it becomes almost impossible to move forward. We have been trying to Sell GLC for decent money for 3 years, 3 sodding years! We finally get someone interested and might actually give us some money back and it's, yeah, "but not to them"........
I can't explain why others see it differently to this.

Far too many of our fans worry about what happens elsewhere and not about what we do.

Selling a player (to a rival) that is only preventing us from having a healthy player who fits the system/demands better is somehow a concern?

Don't get it

I always liked Gio and no doubting his ability but i get the feeling that when he had a niggling injury for us, he was happy to sit out the next game until 100% better, whereas for Argentina he'd have played with the niggle. Looked that way to me from the outside, whereas lots of players - Hojbjerg being a great example - would declare himself fit to play to help the team. I think mangers wouldn't look kindly on a player who was always happy to withdraw from playing with what the manager (and maybe the medical staff) would call a minor niggle.
