Dembele's size and strength made him absolutely unique, but he was also graceful. He could glide passed opposition players like they weren't there. I see no signs of Ndombele doing any of that.

Ndombele has his strengths, and he will be a fine player in his own right, but I don't think it would do him any favours to compare him to Dembele, because he falls short of that standard purely because Dembele is an untouchable freak of nature.
Not true and I liked Dembele. He lacked one important thing. The killer instinct not for scoring as much as putting balls in position where we could have a good go at goal. He was a solid player, protected the ball, dribbled in smaller spaces but lacked helping attack the goal. He usually layed it off

No two players are the same but NDombele is the closest you'll get in terms of a combination of physique and technique.

Dembele was a smoother dribbler and more dillently defensively but what NDombele lacks in those areas he makes up in his passing ability.
And creativity department. Dembele was a monster, but couldn’t make a through ball or good assists.

Dembele will be missed for what he gave us not for what he did not have . He did not score many in fact he did not make many but he did break up play and hold the ball brilliantly . it just outlines that an all dancing singing midfielder is not what's required what is required is someone to patrol the back four giving the protection and therefore more time to organise .
Others like Ndombele can do the attacking midfielder roll as that is what he is best at he is not a defensive midfielder.

We need one creative CM and one strong DM
Dembele had Dier Wantama behind him that was one tough group but we lacked creativity.
When space was available then there was no problem with our darting forwards. But if we had a creative player at CM those slow build ups would not have happened

I've seen quite a few examples of Ndombele rolling an opponent or dropping a shoulder and leaving them for dead - and that's in a Spurs shirt where he hasn't even played a whole lot.

These type players a few and far apart. Not easy to pick up. Natural talent

Not a huge fan of signing players for the sake of it, and this does have that feel about it. I mean, how hard have we been chasing him?
’ve never seen him play though, so hopefully the lad can do the business.

This is blatantly a Jose pick. He's probably been watching this kid for a while, what with the Portuguese links. My guess is after the Sissoko injury and Ndombele's struggles to keep fit he feels he needs another midfielder to bolster us. I doubt we'd have picked up this kid if Jose wasn't in charge.

He's got potential though, so hopefully he can settle quick. Don't expect anything immediate from him, but he may do a job.

Looking forward to seeing him.
And since we are "desperate" for som fresh blood in the quad I recon hes not been bought only for the future.

Looks a tidy player. I hope he avoids the usual reducers that big lump defenders like to dish out.

Why would they agree to loan him for 18 months? I'd like to know if the club wanted that or if Mendes said that was the plan
Benfica hired a new manager last Jan and he plays 4-4-2 with 2 holding mids in CM, where as Fernandes is a box to box mid. They also just signed Weigl.

I like the look of this lad.......my only concern is his brain and feet will be about 5 minutes ahead of the rest of the team.

Strangely low-key signing considering we're not talking pocket change either for the loan portion or ultimate fee. Not much buzz, no rumours in advance, fans a bit non-plussed, minimal media fanfare. A bit odd, but maybe it's better this way.

Anyway, was pleasantly surprised how good his English is in the intro video Spurs released. Will be a big help settling in. He also spoke very well, and seems to have a focused, serious mentality, so looks like he's been brought up well by his clubs and family. Turned 21 last month. Positive vibes I guess.
