Good lad. Straight into training with shorts and a light jacket!
I'd like to believe that no tights, gloves or snood was a conscious decision to brave the elements and cultivate toughness English style, but he probably just didn't know where to get them from the kit store.

IMO losing Wanyama was pretty close to losing Dembele with regard to our slump.

Agree. Wanyama was surprisingly good for a time. Also looking at the Dier-video posted in another thread (I guess - can't remember) it is quite amazing how much better he used to be as well.

Perfect storm kind of thing for me. We went from having a midfield that would at least never ever be bullied - regardless of who played - to whatever "this is" (difficult to explain the current status of our central midfield without profanity).

Poor Fernandes. We might as well call him Jesus - because that is who he is - the one that will save us.

Skinny legs, no calves.

In his first two seasons with us, he had enough strength to hold off barges from most opponents. But these days you can see his knees buckle when challenged heavily. I'm in Canada, so I don't know whether he has turned into a partying animal with his new found riches. If he has, that explains it as when one is over-sexed, one of the first symtoms is the knees seem to weaken and you can't really stand firm, let alone pushing off with them.

Don't know a huge amount about the lad, just watched a Youtube highlight reel (which I never do) and looks like the sort of midfield player who likes a bit of time on the ball. He will have to adapt to the pace of PL quickly if his natural game isn't going to come to the forefront.
Looks a prospect though, will certainly help that he speaks the language and seems to have experience of being in and around London too.

1998 called.. they want their post back.
Gentlemen, I give you ... Erik Lamela. Spent his first season getting barged off the ball until he hit the gym.

They don't have to be Shola Ameobi or Romelu Lukaku, they just have to be able to withstand being shouldered and pushed constantly.

It's about 10ºC in London. Mild and not windy. He;'s not from bleedin' Brazil, he's Portuguese.

Wanyama has never recovered from his severe knee injury. Before the injury, he was powerful, daunting and pretty quick. Since the injury, he lumbers and doesn't tackle effectively. Chalk and cheese.

Poor Fernandes. We might as well call him Jesus - because that is who he is - the one that will save us.
I thought that was Wonderwall.

IMO losing Wanyama was pretty close to losing Dembele with regard to our slump.

Wanyama was legendary in that 2016/17.

What happens when one of the first players on the team sheet and putting on consistently outstanding and dominating performances is a specialist defensive midfielder beast.

We never seem to learn and leave ourselves weak there so often...

Will be interesting to see how Fernandes is utilised.

He did seem to me as a Sissoko-type in terms of utility (hopefully with a bit more ability though lol).
