Yes he has had chances, but he hasn't won anything. I haven't said anything that is bullshit narrative as you suggest.

He has opportunities this season, but when you have the team from across the road even in their shit years winning FA Cups, it will, as a player, make you think.

He played in a damned CL final 12 months ago, if that’s not the opportunity to win things then I don’t know what is.

You literally said he’s going to have to move for the opportunity to win things. ??‍♂️

We are signing a world-class player who actually wants to come to Spurs.

Whatever Bale's innermost thoughts about Spurs, we very badly need a lift, just look at the state we're in.

Literally every window we get excited about a mega-signing and it never happens, except the one time it did last summer with Ndombele, and that hasn't exactly worked out so far, because we are fucking doomed not to have nice things.

Literally no one on here would be surprised if Deeney was signing tomorrow instead of Bale (no disrespect to Deeney), so let's try to enjoy it.

And I say that as a miserable fucker who is always moaning.

I made it clear in my post that I’m not bothered, just don’t say it if it’s not true.
Doherty is/was a Arsenal fan, that’s not important to me because he is our pkayer now and I very confident he will give 100% to the club

I recall that summer he left, I thought he was a **** for leaving and the way he left. In hindsight he had to leave, we weren't going to win four CLs or pay him 600k or give him PL titles etc.

I look at Kane, he has been loyal to us, and now he is 26/27 and will also need to leave to win trophies and get the 300k a week etc.

In over the bale issue now and see the light that ultimately he had to leave. He ain't a **** anymore to me, the Madrid fans are ****s though

Didn’t it come out later that it was a ruse by Barnett and Levy to angle something out of Real?

As I said the other day, bunch of ungrateful hanky waving ****s. They should worship the ground Bale walks on for that overhead kick alone, that’s before you consider it was the winning goal in a CL final.
He also scored the winner against Atleti. But no one talks about that. They only talk about Ronaldo’s goal.

How dare you - Len Duquemin was from Guernsey!!! saying he was from Jersey is like saying Harry Winks is a gooner! ?
I never said Duquemin was from Jersey. I was referring to Chris Jones (1974-82).

But I stand corrected as I had overlooked The Duke’s nationality.

After your comment I had to check the facts, and found that I had missed two players from pre independence Ireland, as well as two from Northern Ireland. My bad.

I’m fully aware of and have a deep felt respect for the pride of people’s origin; if someone would say I’m from a certain part of my hometown, which is literally less than 1/4 of mile away from my family’s home, I would be deeply offended. ?

Hope you can forgive me, mate. And I’ll forgive you for forgetting about our Jersey-player. Does it help if I state that Duquemin had a far superior career with Spurs than Jones?

It's incredible really, I'd say he was huge success at Madrid.

Everybody lauds that Rooney over head kick in the derby, but Bale's is infinitely better in a CL final, its one of great goals of all time imo, to do that in a game of that magnitude was simply stunning.

Part of me was concerned we're getting a past it player.

then I read the comments on this clip of every comment being a real Madrid fan calling him a legend and worth every penny they spent on him

????

Me too. It’s sometimes easy to forget he’s spent longer there than he was with us for.

Just a shame we couldn’t have got him 2 years ago when it was clear he wasn’t really wanted by Zidane.

Plus, although it looks great, Rooney's was a proper shinner.

I finally committed emotionally to watching that video of his last season with us. F**** me. I remembered him being incredible - crazy fast, incredible long range finishing, but the pure range of incredible goals that season was ridiculous. I literally prepared to come on here and say “the technique at ... was unbelievable” about 15 times. The header vs saints, the free kicks, the chip vs city, outside of the boot vs Swansea, West Ham, pure pace for many of them. I think I’m even more excited now and I didn’t think that was possible.

The first thing people think of with Bale is the sheer pace and power but if you look close enough that left foot was always where the true magic was. Unbelievable technique and the best thing about it is that it shouldn't fade as much with age.

The thought of him getting the ball at the edge of the area at the new stadium, cutting across to make some space and then releasing a pearler into the top corner is just surreal, beautiful, and yet now very possible.

Tomorrow should be special.

I don't post too much on here, every now and then, but today's been a good day, my mum has skin cancer (Melanoma) and had surgery to remove her lymph nodes today and also surgery on her back again where the original cancer/mole was. 2cm wide and 2cm deep. All went well, she also had MRI scans of her liver, pelvis and spine about 2 weeks ago and she found out today they are all clear. Massive day of relief for everyone really. Hopefully from today everything is on the up.

Was just trying to type out a joke about how Bale signing was more important/exciting, but it's obviously not possible. I'm just fucking buzzing my mums on the mend and she's coming home tomorrow, and hopefully so is Bale!!!!! Been a great day! Apologies for the ramble, little drunk and very happy, someone point me in the right direction for donations XXX

P.S Love you ITK's, you've made the last few weeks a bit easier <3

If we get even 80% of that player we are so much better.

The last world renowned player to come to Tottenham? Yes. Agree. At the time Klinsmann was 30, and he came from a season with Monaco that was anything but impressive for club and palyer. And even though he was arguably their outstanding performer, Germany had expereinced (for them) a very disappointing world cup, being knocked out in the quarterfinales by Bulgaria. Was he or was he note over the top? And he was not by any means a popular signing in the press or outside Tottenham with his reputation as a diver. The Guardian article called "Why I Hate Jürgen Klinsmann" was just one example. He proved all doubters wrong - of course. And there is no denying he was huge international star at the time he signed. But again mainly as a player for the national side and on the international stage - as a clubplayer he had been part of the Inter side that had won the UEFA Cup in 92, and the Italian Super Cup (Charity Shield) in 89. Not many titles for a world champion and a "star". He was also far more prolific goals corer for Germany than for any of his clubs. He was never golden boot winner in neither Italy onor France, and only once in the Bundesliga (1987/88) - the same year of his only occurence in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

But to say that Jürgen Klinsman is the only world renowned player we have signed ... that shows somewhat a lack of knowledge of our history tbh.

1989:
Gary Lineker, signed from Barcelona as a 28 year old, at the hight of his career. Regining world cup golden boot winner. At the time maybe only Van Basten was a bigger name in world football as a striker.

1981:
One of the most winning English footballers of all time, including 3 European Cups (=that time´s Champions League), Ray Clemence was signed from Liverpool. Admittedly, he was 33, but still one of England two world class goalkeepers of the time. Had it not been for the one year younger Peter Shilton, Clemence would probably have had something like 150 caps for England.

1978:
Ardiles (especially) and Villa were superstars and came straight out of an amazing world cup campaign as winners to sign for Spurs, to a league where players were "foreign" if they were from that green island to the West. Before the signing of these two, Spurs had only had players from England, Scotland and Wales in their 96 year long history - except four (4) Irishmen, a trio (3) of gentlemen from Northern Ireland (including legends Blanchflower & Jennings). And one each from Guernsey and Jersey/Channel Islands. The shock of a signing like this is hard to understand in today´s globalized world - it was totally unpresedented

1970:
Martin Peters, world champion (and should´ve at least have played the final in 70 hadn´t the England manager cocked it up at 2-0 against West Germany and subbed him and Bobby Charlton for them to lose 2-3) came to Spurs in 1970 as a leading midfielder in the world, and broke the british transfer record by a mile with a price of £200.00.

1966:
Mike England - had he been English he would´ve been a world champion. Arguably the best defender to ever play for Spurs, came from Blackburn months before he turned 25 for an amazing £95.000 - unheard of for a defensive player at the time. But, he was by many seen as the finest in the world at this time in this position. He´s still admired at Blacburn, and still the youngest ever to be full time captain of Wales.

1961:
British football´s best ever striker, and one of the most natural goalscorers the game has ever seen, the one and only Jimmy Greaves. He came from Italian power house A C Milan who had bought him only months earlier from Chelsea. Greaves was one of the very first British players to play in Serie A, and was brought to Milano to retain domestic titles and challenge Real Madrid in Europe. He had already scored 124 goals in 157 matches for Chelsea, and was despite his still young age England´s number one choice up front. He had made 3 hattricks for England already before he signed for Spurs.

1958:
Cliff Jones was a huge success at the world cup in 1958, the only time Wales have qualified for the tournament. Beaten by Pele and Brazil 1-0 in the quarterfinals, Jones left Sweden an international star. He was signed for a record fee of £35.000 - at the time the most expensive player any English club had ever bought.

It is of course an almost impossible task to say who was "world renowned" footballers back in time. Especially before the age of television. In present day it´s totally different with a globalized sport, internet and a truly "very small world". And as we all know, star power isn´t always the same as being a great athlete or performer. Anna Kournikova was by far the biggest star in women´s tennis for many years, despite never being ranked higher as number 8, and never winning one single WTA tournament (in singles).

And there is no doubt that Tottenham have a very, very long history of developing stars and world class players. We get them young and/or on the brink of them breaking through as very top talent - and with us they grow to become some of the best there is. Blanchflower, Mackay, Jennings, Chivers, Hoddle, Waddle, Perryman, Gascoigne, Campbell, Sheringham, King, Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Lloris, Kane, Son, etc.

But we have done it - bought the best and biggest stars that money can buy. But not very often. But how many times have English clubs bought a Maradona, Platini or Messi? If ever? Gullit came her when he was old and over the top. Cantona grew to super stardom here. So did most of the other biggest stars in the PL era.

But.

There is maybe one exception to the rule ... :

The arguably biggest bona fide STAR ever to be signed by Tottenham, and maybe any English club ever:

Alex Morgan - just a couple of weeks ago.
All superb players and wonderful signings but they weren't household names around the world and known by those without an interest in football. I'd argue Bale as a former world's most expensive player is and to some degree Klinsmann and Linker also. That's why I say he's on another level status wise. I'm not talking about impact or ability or quality, purely notoriety.

I love all the players behind the ball. We should take the piss when we get free kicks, just have the other 10 men in our half ready for kick-off after bale smashes it top bins. :ROFLMAO:
