If DL was going to do it he would have done by now, this is not the kind of deal you can sit on.

P.S I think HK will be off next season either way.

I totally understand Kane leaving, infact if Levy fucks about again I would encourage him to leave for everyone’s benefit.

But I can’t take the “Kane hasn’t had opportunities to win things here”

Harry has been one of the biggest chockers of all in our biggest games, bar a few Arsenal or Chelsea games.
wouldn't call him a choker, but he has certainly under performed at times (sometimes extended periods too) which have certainly affected Tottenham's ceiling. but this whole talk of trophies is just the lazy narrative we've been seeing for years in several sports. general perception oversimplifies everything and mocks whoever doesn't fit a given criteria. a player fails to win silverware, the assumption is automatically underwhelming career. like he wasn't involved in the groups that failed to do so. not only that, collective success doesn't correlate to individual accomplishments. but it is the easy way out to evaluate careers.

so... Kane will most likely do the same. find the easy way out, play for a club that invests 100M in bench players, probably have way less influence in the outcome but in the end he will be able to say that he was a winner.

OK - update totally makes sense to me.
This is a real opportunity to build a side again or tear down everything (squad wise) and start again as mid table and build again organically after selling Kane - I know which I prefer ...

If the reported figure of 18M (in either EUR or GBP) is correct and we're not willing to pull the trigger, then absolutely fuck Levy.

The other lot down the road are about to have two 30+ players on £350k+ a week. They have similar turnover to us. We hear they are getting tight financially but it doesn't sound like they are anywhere near 'doing a Leeds' either.

With Madrid supposedly willing to pay off half of his wages Bale would be available for similar to that. Seems a very fair deal when you consider the potential upside to it. If you are worried about squad disharmony find a way around it (if he is a free transfer then pay a big signing on fee), but also show them Bale's career accomplishments and ask if they want to take back what they said.

It is almost a shame stadiums are closed at the moment as I reckon Levy would get the message when there are a lot of empty seats in the stadium due to a sub-standard product, and those that do attend turn their ire against him.

Well I don't think Kane woukd be pissed off, he'd probably be delighted.

If the others are pissed off then they should take a look at themselves and if they warrant their salary as they've hardly been grand this past year or so.

Son has been our player of the year twice in a row and was on the 30 man Ballon D'or shortlist. He might feel a bit fed up with someone coming in on double his wages.

My concern is his injury record of late.

But I do suppose even if we had him for 30 games per season the lift would be massive and he wouldn't bottle as many counter attacks as some of our current lot do.

The thing that twists it for me at this point is Kane. We lose him and we can kiss good by to getting anywhere near close to challenging.

I'd prefer to spend the money on fixing the midfield and getting a striker but maybe it's best we take a plunge and keep Kane motivated to stay.

It hardly screams ambition if we aren't prepared to do a cut price deal for Bale does it?

The fee is one thing, but what about the wages? We have no idea what Bale wants. 250k/wk, 300k/wk, 350k/wk ???

PS - not having a crack, I want this to go through.

Knowing Levy he will be clinging to his tried and tested...... Player wants us, club need to get rid so I'll hold out till the death to squeeze a few sheckles out of the deal.

Won't work with this one from what I hear because both Bale camp and Madrid have already moved as far as they are willing to.

Things do change so pinch of salt and all that, but considering Levy's love of a bargain deal, he won't get a player of Bales profile for this price any time soon.

This is it really. We all know Bale is not the full on explosive player that left us, but it was only 2 years ago he scored one of the greatest goals in a major final ever.

He's still world class and you don't need me to tell you that world class players are not beating down the door to sign for Tottenham Hotspur. And he wants to come by all accounts. You have to take these opportunities when they are presented to you if you are serious about winning trophies.

I can't see it happening though because we are always risk averse. We sat on our hands when we were strong and the result is where we are now and I can't see us changing our m.o. any time under the current owners.

Said everyone, every season for the past 3 or 4 when Kane's been injured for an extended period.

Never really happens.

Also remember that kind of doom and gloom when we sold Bale, and aside from a shite season under tactics Tim, we came out of that alright in the end.

This same conversation could be happening in any one of the hundred striker threads and I'd still boil it down to the principal of this situation, we're talking about dragging our feet over a player who would add and (most likely) make a huge difference to the squad and our performances on the pitch.

It's fucking galling that we're sat here, two days out from playing plodvidov or however you spell their fucking name and we still don't have a striker that either supports, backs up, or adds to the ability to help Kane. We're still lacking a player than knits front to back and it seems there is a deal on a plate that would solve a whole bunch of problems and it's like we're still not sure ....

I honestly can't see how anyone can defend Levy/those in charge of this shit knowingly the knock on effect of all this in regard to the playing squad.

2 years ago Vertonghen and Alderweireld were the best CB pairing in the EPL. Just saying.

Is it too much to ask for Bale, Grealish And Dembele so we can have a serious go this season( I’ll get my coat)?

I don't believe we are flitting from player to player as far as ST is concerned. That's just how it looks.
That's good to hear.
I know it's only the press but we're being linked with so many names, I end up believing them (to an extent).
After the past couple of decent windows, Bergwijn, Gio, Tanguy etc, I was hoping we were going to be a bit more aggressive this window, even considering the financial situation.
But maybe the financial situation is what's driving Levy to be even more of an annoying git than usual, he can smell blood in the water and is determined to try to take advantage of other clubs.
