Off the back of someone calling Lamela a **** in the match thread yesterday, I'd like to highlight his defensive work, which some individuals fail to appreciate just because he missed a chance:

This is damming on winks!
I like Lamela and in this game I don’t think he was particularly bad. Everyone seemed to miss a simple chance in that game.

for me it's the big games where the headless chicken approach doesn't work against top class opposition.

but there are moments of quality, there is desire which is infectious, and he clearly is smart enough to understand orders from the bench. against the Saints watching him get involved, help the midfield out, and press was game changing and something not all players have.

if he goes for a huge price to balance the books so be it, other wise great rotation option and credit to the club.

I think is unfair to call his approach headless chicken. You haven't noticed how his tackling and tracking back seems way more calculated and intelligent now? He's also deliberately avoiding making contact with the opposition when the referee is near, and only seems to do so when the situation is critical.

Love Coco. If he can stay fit all season you won’t find a better high energy Impact sub that him. He has a reasonable amount of quality and he has 100% a brilliant attitude.

The only issue I’ve ever had with him is that for £30m he’s not been consistently at the required level that we hoped he’d be and he’s been injured far too often so we can’t rely on him but as a person in terms of effort and application absolutely couldn’t ever ask for anymore.

Our best Sub! brings quality and energy. If we are losing he injects pace and urgency with his tenacious style.... in addition to this hes a great sub to see the game out as he draws fouls and has the technique to keep the ball in the corner.

This is when I know you do not know what you are talking about and just spouting nonsense. Lamela for all his faults actually play his best games against top opposition. Ask the fans of both Man City and Arsenal where he played MOTM performances against then recently. Headless chicken my ass

His pressing has always been excellent although his aggression often led to a yellow card moments after he came on.

But I do think this team has lacked "bite", a slightly nasty character on the pitch to get the players going. I hope Højbjerg can be that guy.

You have to consider how serious the injuries he's had (spine and pelvis) are for a professional sportsperson. That he's still useful at all is something. There're plenty of others I'd sell before him.

Showed again why he’s the perfect squad player; came on, took care of the ball, knocked it about nicely and, as with Ndombele, much prefers playing forward passes.

Always looks so much better when he's got proper footballers playing alongside doesn't he.

He’d be having a hell of a match right now if he could just move the ball faster.
You mean if he realised that he’s allowed to pass to his teammates? It’s like watching someone trying to ruin the whole pitch with one player on Fifa, but using the slowest player on the pitch.

Who would win 1v1 in a 'let's see who can run straight into the opposition' match? Lamela or Lucas?
