And he’s had a pretty bad injury list since then hasn’t he. It’s not like he’s been available every single game since 2016 has it.
So instead of moving him we should keep a player who was consistently good four years ago for half a season and Injury prone?

Why? What is the point of keeping hold of him? He is never going to get better. He is 28 years old now and should be at his peak. A couple of more seasons and any value he holds is eradicated which was the same mistake we made with Toby and Jan and Eriksen. We need to learn to move players on at the right time rather then harping on about how good they were in the past.

Erik Lamela has never been a critical player for us. Not unless critical now means something else, and no-one got round to telling me.

I’ve said why, we have much more pressing concerns than Erik Lamela at the minute.

I mean, obviously, is someone came in with a really good offer then that’s something to consider but I wouldn’t exactly make it a priority of mine to start calling up half of Europe to see if anyone is interested in a cut price deal.

There are very few of our players that we shouldn’t be looking to do this with. Kane and Son, for example, are on this list. Lamela definitely isn’t. He’s every bit as much a part of the problem as anyone else, with the problem being we have too many players of below-average quality for the level we believe we should be at.

We do have more pressing issues to address but this is where we need to be creative. We need to get money in for players who have decent value and bring other players in areas where we need.

So you think we should be on the phone to half of Europe looking to sell all our players (apart from Kane and Son) on cut price deals?

So Lamela has decent value now does he?

i think the club is always open to sell him but there wasn't a single club interested
Well Levy needs to be more creative in his gumtree descriptions:

" One footed Argentinian International forward available that has the letter E in his surname"

That should get a few more enquiries.

I think his game has been poor for us recently.
The one I trust to find openings for us but he has been poor recently. But we have had zero movement up top players are all so static. His form is a symptom Not the cause of our decline

When did I say he hasn't? I said it's time to move him on before any value becomes eradicated.

You didn’t it’s just implied by your posts saying he’s an average sick note of a player.

I love his desire to carry the ball and his off the ball aggression, but he can't thread forward passes and takes way too long to decide what to do. Good option off the bench, not a starter imo.

Yes, I think we should be actively shopping around most of our players and taking whatever reasonable offers we can get for them, as opposed to just holding on to deadwood for the next few seasons because we can't recoup what we paid for them.

Ok, so assuming we take all reasonable offers for “most of our players” then what?

We’d be down to just Son and Kane so we’d need to make about 25 signings.

The point I’m making, obviously, is that that isn’t feasible so, with that in mind, what players are you going to prioritise to sell and what areas are we going to prioritise in terms of recruitment?

Also, the last thing I’ll say on this as I can’t be bothered but another reason why I personally wouldn’t make Lamela’s departures a priority is because we need all the “heads up” attackers we got at the moment. Say what you like about him, he can dilly dally on the ball, give away possession, not have great goal scoring ability but one thing you can’t deny about Lamela is that he’s a heads up player and when your attack has Son and Moura (both players I like btw) who are very heads down players then you need players like Lamela in the squad. Yes, no reason why we couldn’t sell him and replace him with someone similar but like I say, other much more concerning areas we need to address and it also goes back to how we’re being coached at the moment especially attacking wise.

Sell. Never lived up to his potential. Holds on to the ball far too long and slows down attacks. For all his industry we shouldn't just be keeping players because they run around. Cheers Erik, but it is time for you to go and for me to get a new profile picture.

I had such high hopes for him.

I was traveling with a Roma fan when we bought him and he said he was the only youngster he'd seen at the club better than Totti. Whether that was a common thought among their fans I have no idea but certainly high praise.

But it hasn't worked out for him, largely due to injuries. Right now he offers little more than work rate. It's appreciated but not enough.
