Player Watch: Erik Lamela

Wow! Up until his recent injury he was most in form and consistent player, that was making our woeful start of the season more palatable. But how easily we forget. Typical

But it's not about how everyone forgets is it?

It's about him being injured 24/7 for all the time he has been here, and it's time for us to move him. He has a good contract, but you can argue he has not earned it enough, and that's not said in a bad way. (not his fault obviously)

Im sure the same thing happened last year, was arguably our best player then got injured a couple of months in and that was pretty much it for the season. I've grown to quite like him as a player but I agree we should cut our losses, sell him and Eriksen and get someone like Zyech.

I’ve always liked Lamela but he’s taking up a squad place that could be used by another player who could provide an equal or possibly more output in terms of goals and assists.

Any ideas when he is back from injury?
He apparently injured his hamstring in training after the Belgrade game, so some time around the 23/10. Based on the fact it has already been nearly 7 weeks, you can assume it is at least a grade 2 tear, so he might even be available tomorrow or this weekend. If it's more than that, then fuck knows.

Could it be a grade 3 tear though? If that's the case, we may not see him again for the rest of the season.

According to physioroom Lamela, along with Ndombele and Worm have only a 25% chance of playing on 15/12/19. Winks seems to be the closest with a 50% chance, and Lloris and Davies are, of course, nowhere near fit.

I dont care if he spends more time in physioroom than on the pitch. I dont pay his wages. If he plays, he always gives100%, much better than Eriksen.
The team is not built around him after all, so his absent is not a big miss

Lamela is my favorite player. I have defended him to the death. But even I- who has the biggest man-crush of man-crushes on him— who adores all facets of him— his tenacity, his skill, his clutch-play, his fight, his shithousery, the way the other teams HATE him, that he bleeds Tottenham blue, etc.— even I have to admit I can’t take it any more. He is supremely talented and gives his all to the cause each and every minute he’s on the pitch- but he’s pretty much never on the pitch. I can’t defend it anymore, particularly as 99% of the time you never even see what happened— he’s just gone.

I feel like a kid who has this incredibly wonderful, cool dad- one who loves spending time with me, who cares about me deeply and loves me with all his heart- but who, unfortunately, is pretty much never around.

I feel like crying. Not literally but I am seriously sad. I fucking love Lamela- but I just can’t do this anymore- the guy is simply too injury-prone to matter.

Or we could just get rid of Lamela AND Eriksen and bring in someone reliable?

He's on 80k/week that could be used on someone else.

You have to be a next level uber virgin to actually do Excel formulas about Spurs. Especially something as abundantly obvious as "Lamela has missed a lot of games through injury".

It is.

Imagine if he was available when Kane, Dele etc were out last season. We would have been able to rest our key players when they needed it but we couldn't.

I don't give two shits anout how much he gets paid. But for the team, we need someone more reliable.

Of the many defences of Lamela in this thread, this is probably my favourite.

"Yes, he's injured all the time, but there's no need to replace him as we don't miss him when he's out."
