After all the fussing and column inches written about Lucas, Eriksen and our two new signings, it would be funny if Lamela turns out to be our stand-out midfielder this season.

Btw, I think he's going to link up really well with Dybala when he arrives in January ;)

Someone disagreed that Lamella is in his prime. If you don't know that footballers peak between 27-29, do you even like football?

One thing I’ll say about him is as well if he does have the ability to effect a game. Early last season he was very effective. He may hang on to the ball way to long but it’s never dull when he’s on the pitch. Even the penalty at Anfield.

For me anybody that shows real commitment gets a nod from me and to me he has always given his all and nobody can give more than there all tho some like Eriksen should try it and it would shut up his doubters like me.

I just wish he had the end product. He keeps trying these crazy reverse through balls that never gets thru

I didn't rewatch the Newcastle game, but I could have sworn that on at least two occasions Lamela was available for a pass in an excellent goal scoring position and the player with the ball went for a not-very-on shot instead. And then Erik gets criticised for not influencing the game...

Played really well in the 1st half. Another goal and really good pressing. My only pet peeve is he still under hits his short passes and almost looks to dribble into packed space instead of releasing the ball quicker.

Do you have a pet peeve for the other players as well?

It has seemed to me that Lamela and Son have had some problems with each other the last couple of seasons. Looking irritated and sometimes seeming to refuse to pass the other and instead have a shot from a weaker position.

They look much more comfortable this season and Erik even putting this up on Instagram:

If it was an issue probably from the man city at home 2-0 win where lamela took the ball from Sonny to take the pen, or was it Sonny that tried to take the ball from lamela. Anyway lamela missed.

Yeah, I've seen stuff like that several times. Alli's second goal when we won away at Chelsea is another example.

That's just Lamela posting photographic evidence of his male dominance over Son. I've seen my dogs do this. One gets on the other one's back to say 'I'm the controlling one in this relationship'. Sometimes the less dominant dog will lie on his back with his legs in the air. Look out for Son next match to see if that happens. :)

I think Squirrels also display this behavior. :sneaky:

Joking aside they both played really well on Saturday. We have some depth in that squad now.
