Are we not allowed to work on multiple parts of the squad at the same time?
Absolutely, but getting rid of a decent player (injuries aside) when we're losing Eriksen isn't a good idea, especially when we're supposedly not bringing in anybody of note.

Can't fault his effort or desire but he has never truly kicked on at us. Had patches where it looked like he may push on but injuries/fitness always seem to hold him back. For that reason, think it could be a good time for both parties if he moves.

At 27 years of age, still potentially got a lot of football in him and maybe a move to a less physical and intense league will be beneficial for his career while we can pick up a fee for a player whose probably unlikely to nail down a first team place and put it towards strengthening it.

btw if we ship out lamela and eriksen in the same window then BF+Eze coming in is a must, but unlikely to happen imo

There are quite a few I would rather us sell than Lamela

IMO it's entirely dependant on what we would do with the non HG squad space he would vacate. Love his attitude but his overall contribution has been so hit and miss that I can see the logic in letting this happen.

I'd be happy to see him go, which is strange to say as I do genuinely like what he brings to the team. Feels like at times where we could really do with him he's not available, just so many injuries.

I guarantee he doesn't make it from now until the end of the season injury free, not a chance.

I wonder if the change in manager and the different approach to training and fitness will have any impact on Lamela. Poch was supposedly all about high levels of fitness with frequent double sessions. I don't know what Mourinho's approach is, but as Lamela often seems to suffer from these muscle injuries, perhaps we'll see more of him with the change in training techniques?

I like Lamela, however injuries have been a huge problem for him. I think we should keep him until the summer and then move him on.

Rose, Vertonghen (sadly), Wanyama, Dier, Aurier, Eriksen to name a few.
The question was aimed for a response from original poster. I don't disagree with your list of possible departures. Finding clubs and fees that are acceptable to player and Levy may prove a bit more challenging.

He needs one full year with Mourinho at the helm- meaning, the remainder of this season plus all of the next one. If he misses an inordinate amount of time next season -for any reason- then fine, move him on. However, if Mourinho can figure out the right way to handle him--which would mean training him, teaching him, talking with him, putting him in, starting him, occasionally holding him back and just generally getting to know him for an entire campaign- including the all-important summer pre-season-- and then, even after all that he still reverts to type and misses an abnormal amount of matches due to injury-- then fine, jettison him at last. I just want to see the combination of one of the world's best managers teamed up with a guy who- when healthy- pretty much ticks every possible box a player could have.

Lamela is magic; absolute, unadulterated magic. He fights harder than any player I have ever seen play for us. He is pure warrior. He is a filthy Spur- one who bleeds Tottenham blue- a guy who never, ever backs down from anyone, at any time, in any match, ever. Yes, I know: he is injured so often that it is horrible. Yes, I know: he could be Lionel Messi combined with David Silva and Marcelo and it wouldn't matter a jot if he never saw the pitch. I promise you all: I agree. Even I- his biggest supporter- almost can't take it any more. But unlike many of you lot I want him to play one full season under Jose. Again: if it ends up being the same as it always has: i.e., he's the best player on our team from mid-August through mid-September- after which he goes missing due to some phantom injury and we don't end up seeing him until he makes a ten-minute cameo away at Newcastle on a Tuesday night in late February- well, then, o.k.-- I'll throw my hands up, join the rest of you (sane) humans and, well, hope all the best for him regarding his new, fresh start in Italy.

But before that (likely inevitable) scenario arises, please- I beg of you people: grant me this one last wish.

Please.

When it comes to Erik Lamela I am blinded by my man-crush; I live eternally in hope.
