Until they make a mistake then everyone calls for Tanganga to be given a run out.

I do hate your sarcasm in every thread but unfortunately this sarcastic quip is actually spot on :ROFLMAO:

can’t you just let us wallow in self pity for 24 hours and scape goat whoever we like until we are all over it and start to believe that we’ll win the league again by Wednesday?

I know we don't always agree but you are spot on with this. The players out of the side are always the solution until they cock up.

Individuals make mistakes but collectively we need to be better defensively.

Any idea when Dier will be back?
Hopefully today. This post gives me slight encouragement for both him and Japh being fit soon.

Oddly enough the club published no team news update ahead of the match, nor was Jose quizzed on the squad's fitness in the pre-match presser. Instead all of the usual clueless reporters fielded questions like "is Son ready to be considered a world class player?" for the 10th time this week.

Yeah agreed regarding the reporters, they really do just ask the same unimaginative crap over and over don’t they!

Iirc at the time Southgate said Jones was the best England defender, and he had Jones took 6 shots, for 2 friendlies. Some manU fans claim Jones was never the same after that.

Six injections for Phil Jones? Isn't that his normal breakfast?

I have complete faith in Dier when defending corners.

I don’t have quite as much faith when he’s defending a ball over the top. He really needs to address and work on this. If he does, he can become a great CB. He’s a proper leader and personally I’d like to see him and Toby as our main pairing, with Reguilon on the left to cover him when he’s done for pace.

We now have half a dozen leaders in the team now and the importance of that can’t be stressed enough. We also have Lamela who could lead Satan in his quest to fight God.

Other than that one dodgy moment that was a handball, I thought he had an excellent game. The big problem with Dier is that there's generally one of those dodgy moments every game. Just needs to consistently concentrate and he's a great CB.

He went full Vlad Chiriches with that flick today. Wood is a little unlucky with the hand ball but you know that would go against us 100/100 times. I’d like to think Dier saw Vlad try it a few times and was possessed in a moment of fear today.

Otherwise his aerial ability is severely slept on. His headers clear are the definition of commanding, and he’s gotten so much better at using his body in the air legally.

Lads, no way was that handball. Dier was great today, but that was a pure moment of madness. Lucked out that the ref gave the decision - and from so far away as well.

I think Mourinho was soooo furious with that flick, cursing into him immediately when that happened. Mourinho was at the bench most of the match until that incident.

That was really a poor brain dead decision to make - Wood totally second guessed him.

Other than that, he was so much dependable than Sanchez.

Come on dude, it was unlucky at best, Jose understands football so knows those types of things happen, it’s not a mistake but good play from the opposition.

much like most goals scored are simply good shots, not a goalkeeping mistake.

dier was unreal tonight in a tough long ball game.

The mad thing about that attempted flick was that it was easier to pass back for Hugo to clear. Needless risk. But it was handball under the rules we’ve been paying under for over 2 years.

Right on the first bit. But look at this. Bollocks it was handball.
Arm tucked in and not extended from the body. If that was given against us, we'd be raging. AR doesn't flag and we were lucky Oliver was miles away but still gave it. Dier's one bad decision in the match and could have cost us.

Not sure where you’ve been fella, but for attackers the ball hits the arm anywhere in an attacking situation and it’s hand ball, natural position or not. As it was away at Sheff Utd when Moura was fouled last season. And as it was when Llorente got the benefit of the doubt in the CL Qtr final 2nd leg at City 2 years ago. Those are the rules. You might not like them but it is fact. I personally think it’s a ridiculous rule but it’s the rule. The handball interpretation change this year is about handball in defensive situations, not attacking one’s. Last night if the ref had missed it and they’d scored VAR would definitely have ruled it out for handball.

From another angle, it looks like he flicks his elbow out and catches the ball.
It was poor from Dier, just needed to hook it away rather than a little touch

Dier just isn't reliable enough. Every game theres a moment or two, normally when not under pressure where he gives the ball to the opposition, or like the handball incident, makes a seemingly simple situation potentially catastrophic.
He's probably less sloppy than Sanchez, but I think we all know that doesn't mean Dier is good enough to be one of our starting CBs. I hope this Rodon lad is good.

Our general defending from set pieces is also really poor. So often we let the opposition climb over us and we don't even get off the ground to compete.
