He does lack mobility but yesterday his passing was poor.

I do think he will be good again but just seems so cumbersome. He isnt fat obviously but he looks really heavy which is i think impacting on his mobility. He reminds me of Lukaku who also seemed cumbersome and heavy but managed to cut down his muscle etc which perhaps Dier needs to do?

He may well be suited somewhere else perhaps abroad where the pace is slightly slower.

I am of the opinion he was never more than average, and 15-17 season where he worked as a cdm was hugely down to the beastness that was Dembele
Sorry man, but I disagree with this totally.

Before his appendicitis problem and injury, he was everything we craved for - quick, versatile, strong, eye for passes and was a leader.

The reverend status given to Dembele at SC is just too over the top IMHO. Might as well build him a shrine. Lest not forget he was the main culprit in our slow buildup before he was gone, often dilly dallying, twisting and turning. Anyhow, great player no doubt, but depreciating Dier to the extent, who has given everything he could whenever playing for us,while bigging up a Dembele who was steadily on a decline was really an insult to Dier.

I bet unless he broke his silence on his injury to a full extent (he did but just very brief), we can never understand how much of a difficulty he was facing.

And sometimes I just don't understand why we as fans are so easily giving up on players when they are declining, giving them all the sticks no matter how hard they are trying, especially those who were once the major contributors.

Totally agree with this - Dembele was a very gifted player and impossible to get the ball off but he was useless in the final third and generally did nothing with the ball other than move it higher up the pitch. He was incredibly talented but also very wasteful and limited in possession - he was not the player many people say he was.

Dier I hope can regain fitness to become closer to the player who was playing regularly for England and Spurs a few years ago, he is still a relatively young player. He is a long way off that at the moment though.

Dier had just one good season. While MD played top whenever he played. He declined fitness wise but whenever he was on pitch he was good. We were best in CM when wanyama replaced dier. In both case MD was there. We had control when he was in CM. Its no wonder we are bad since he left especially in midfield. Dier is an average player with one good season. The same like bentaleb. Not good enough for top 6 club.

Isn't it time to move him back to CD, like Mabbutt? He was never supposed to be in midfield forever- I thought it was a temporary fix...trouble is we're weak in that area at the moment so he has to play there.

Dier is unfit - very sluggish. Could injuries still be niggling at him?
Unfortunately his technical ability on the ball, dribbling, passing and creating space are also severely lacking which I think are more of a problem.

Shouldn't be getting anywhere near our midfield and once mourinho goes he'll be on very limited time.

Hopefully he's clever enough to realise this and the fact we have 2 ageing CBs he can slot in for if he focuses on being a defender. Work to do there also mind!

I think it's more to do with his recovery from a severe medical issue. I'd also hazard a guess that he might be suffering from some sort of thyroid problem.

Possibly. When he comes off, or at the end of games you see massive disapointment in his face. He knows he is not performing but he is still being picked. We never know the true problems players have physically/mentally, we just need to get behind them as much as possible but this is a difficult time to have patience I guess with poor performances.

Whatever his injury problems he should be able to pass the ball to a team mate and not the opposition, His passing on Tuesday was far too sloppy/casual

Despite his uncanny impression of a golden retriever chasing it's tail in his own box, he wasn't all that bad when he came on. With Winks seemingly out for the immediate future he will probably get another chance at some redemption and hopefully get some sharpness back because at the moment he has the turning circle of a cruise liner.

Now 2 managers don’t fancy him. What has gone wrong with Dier ? I find it really sad as he was my favourite player in 15/16 and with only a year left on contract, I personally think he will be gone in Summer.

in disbelief, he still gets a game, a truly awful football, how a 6 foot 3 man can lose every header on top of that, what are actually his attributes?

Copy/paste from another thread. I couldn't find this one originally.

Dier's finished. He's struggled so much since his operation, it appears to have done a bad number on his intestinal system and immune system, he's ill so much of the time now and never looks even remotely fit even when available.

As long as his body keeps playing games with him he should not be playing football. And if these issues never get fixed, then so be it. We had some great years with him and he should've been a decade long mainstay in the side but it just isn't to be.

Another one that I’m really worried about career wise something is up with him big time.
Poch seems to have broken a lot of players with his methods very similar to biesla

The game just passes him by now as he jogs side to side never really getting into a position to receive the ball. Can't see any combination where he could work in midfield either.
