Sorry man, but I disagree with this totally.I am of the opinion he was never more than average, and 15-17 season where he worked as a cdm was hugely down to the beastness that was Dembele
The reverend status given to Dembele at SC is just too over the top IMHO. Might as well build him a shrine. Lest not forget he was the main culprit in our slow buildup before he was gone, often dilly dallying, twisting and turning. Anyhow, great player no doubt, but depreciating Dier to the extent, who has given everything he could whenever playing for us,while bigging up a Dembele who was steadily on a decline was really an insult to Dier.
Dier had just one good season. While MD played top whenever he played. He declined fitness wise but whenever he was on pitch he was good. We were best in CM when wanyama replaced dier. In both case MD was there. We had control when he was in CM. Its no wonder we are bad since he left especially in midfield. Dier is an average player with one good season. The same like bentaleb. Not good enough for top 6 club.Sorry man, but I disagree with this totally.
Before his appendicitis problem and injury, he was everything we craved for - quick, versatile, strong, eye for passes and was a leader.

I bet unless he broke his silence on his injury to a full extent (he did but just very brief), we can never understand how much of a difficulty he was facing.
And sometimes I just don't understand why we as fans are so easily giving up on players when they are declining, giving them all the sticks no matter how hard they are trying, especially those who were once the major contributors.
Unfortunately his technical ability on the ball, dribbling, passing and creating space are also severely lacking which I think are more of a problem.Dier is unfit - very sluggish. Could injuries still be niggling at him?

Possibly. When he comes off, or at the end of games you see massive disapointment in his face. He knows he is not performing but he is still being picked. We never know the true problems players have physically/mentally, we just need to get behind them as much as possible but this is a difficult time to have patience I guess with poor performances.I think it's more to do with his recovery from a severe medical issue. I'd also hazard a guess that he might be suffering from some sort of thyroid problem.
