Quite sad to see how poor he is now, I was never his biggest fan but he was obviously very highly rated, but it’s looking less and less likely that he’ll ever be that player again. We should try and sell him if we can.

Tough for him tonight and he was terrible but was much better Saturday

A very sad indictment on our midfield that he has to play back to back just as he’s trying to work his way back

I hadnt noticed how poor he was before so wtaching him closely tonight it was enlightening that he just seems so heavy on his feet, ambling around. His pasing which I think is ok was so so poor.

When you watch Bayern you see what we need to strive for.

Dier and Sissoko just not at that level.

They’re not good enough but what’s more alarming is the gulf between Sissoko and Dier... at least Siss has bundles of energy and tries. Dier is just bloody awful.

Not surprised with what we saw from him tonight. He is nowhere near a top class DM. A team with the attacking quality that Bayern have will always show him for what he is.....a plodder playing in quicksand. He is out of his depth against top teams, against the lesser sides, maybe can do a job but that really is your lot with him.

Sissoko is useful, Dier is not.
People expect Dier to be charging around closing down the ball and winning it all over midfield when that's not his game. Yes, Kante and Ndidi might do that but Diet is more of an anchor. He will sit and take up a position in front of the front players to block passing channels. It's not necessary for him to be hi-octane charging around.

Carrick did the same very effectively as did Pirlo. Only difference is the gulf in passing ability.

Yes, he didn't play great but he should be criticised for performance not style

I normally don't say this about spurs players and try to remain positive but... oh my days he is simply just not good enough. Not a revelation but the midfield was shocking tonight and tbh its been shoddy for a while.

I don't think there is a fix at the club currently though.

Skipp looks good but maybe shouldn't be relied on just yet.

I simply fail to see the logic in playing him in a pivot. His only chance is playing in the middle of a CM3 or at the base of a diamond. Other than that his shortcomings are a real liability. As I've said repeatedly, I don't think we have the players for a pivot system full stop.

I actually think Foyth would be a better option for us in DM than dier tbh, he will probably get caught out once maybe in the game but thats still 9 less times than Dier would

He’s a passenger mate. And as for his positioning, part of the problem is he isn’t just screening the back four. In fact, often this season when an opposition player is just outside our box with too much room Dier is nowhere to be seen. He’s also being sucked in to following players higher up the pitch and getting nowhere near them.

I do agree with what you're saying but I think if you do play the anchor role your passing has to be top-notch, totally not diers fault and I'm sure he tries but I feel more is required for a club who wants to challenge for silverware than just simply shielding the back four or block passing lanes.
