Can we get this reduced on appeal to a 3 match ban on the grounds that he has already served a quarter of this sentence when he went missing with all the other Spurs defenders in the Sheffield United game last week ?

Again the penalty does not fit the crime. He did no more than go into the crowd and attempt to confront a fan. How the FA can determine that this was threatening behaviour is beyond me. As far as I am aware the fan refer to himself as an 'idiot' and it all blew pretty quickly.

People want him sacked . WHAT ? I have been in a position where a family member was or I thought was in danger and I reacted as any right thinking person would and so OK he is guilty he is then punished end of the matter you would think .
Some of the comments by some of the people on this site I have to say " get back to your monestary " as you are obviously impervious to danger to one of your own . And dont break your neck when getting off of your high horse .
I did not realise a lot of our supporters were seemingly saints .
To mention wages and club responsibilities in such moments is utterly below the belt and I hope in the same position I would respond in a similar fashion fuck the money fuck football this is my family.

This will have zero effect on whether he gets new contract or not, that will totally depend on whether the manager sees him in his plans going forward, or whether we would be better off cashing in on him.

I personally found what Lloris did last year as worse than this, he broke the law, and in my view should have had captaincy stripped, but Dier did this in Spurs kit whilst representing the club, a moderate ban is fully deserved.

4 match ban seems fair enough tbh. Regardless of the specifics the FA just can't be seen to come down lightly on this type of thing or they'll make a rod for their own backs.

The person Dier confronted when questioned by the police took some responsibility for his actions and said he didn’t feel threatened. The police ended there investigation saying Dier wasn’t deemed threatening he was just trying to reach his family to make sure they were alright. The FA are literally saying we don’t believe that. He’s received 4x the fine Milwall did for being racist and the same length of ban as John Terry when he abused Ferdinand. Absolute shambles

I just think it shows a fundamental lack of respect to the club who made you to think you can go wading into the stands to confront someone who your brother had physically confronted.

For that reason, I really wouldn't care one way or the other if his contract wasn't renewed and he was sold at the end of the season.

Dier never got near the bloke. The 'fan' said he didn't feel threatened and the Police verified that so I think it's a complete over reaction from the FA to determine the complete opposite to what the evidence highlighted. If Dier had been 5'2" instead of 6'2" I think there'd be a different outcome.

The general consensus is that he's been one of our best defenders since the restart. So when people were calling for him to be sacked, they were joking and being sarcastic. That's all.

Indeed.

He wouldn't have been able to get over all those rows of seats for starters.

As soon as a player enters the crowd and is seen to approach a fan, they're gonna give him a lengthy ban regardless of the context, their size, etc.

They just can't be seen to allow players to go aggressively running into the crowd as it sets a terrible precedent.

The racism stuff is obviously ridiculous and those bans and fines should be much higher, but, taken in isolation, I see nothing wrong with this ban.

Thanks montalbano sorry for being so slow my only question is that there is more than a few that feel he should be sacked or not have his contract renewed . Do you as I feel this is absurd and the punishment wanted by some way over the top or do you feel they are right to give stiff punishment by the club IE sacking or no renewal of contract ? I am just curious to know if I am in a minority or a majority in feeling that Dier reacted as most of us would when it comes to family .

Talking about precedent, we shouldn't invent lengthy punishments for every person who is inherently under control the entire time (which Dier indeed was). Otherwise, the message is that you might as well really go bananas once you are at it, because the ban will hit you regardless of how extreme you are or are not.

I disagree. Players can't do that, irrespective of what is said. Only possible reason is for Health and Safety.
Imagine giving him a slap on the wrist, that wouldn't discourage anyone, and certainly sends the wrong message to fans who decide to invade the pitch

This every day of the week.

Nicklas Bendtner was fined more for wearing Paddy Power boxers under his kit once than the Bulgarian FA have been fined for several accounts of crowd racism at international matches.

We need harsher punishments for the actual serious offences, so this, all things considered, relatively mild punishment for Dier doesn't seem unfair.
