Jose is no fool so must believe that Dier will come good with game time.

After prolonged back to back illness it may take sometime to get back to his best which let’s not forget earned him a regular England place.

I’m hoping he comes good as he has the right mentality imho.

As has been said before, against weaker midfields he looks ok. Against better quality he's falls way short.
That’s why we should extend his contract, let him be a good squad player and buy a first choice DM.

Surely that is the case for nearly every player since playing against better players is harder?

Of course it isn't. Better players rise to the big games, not become completely anonymous. Dier is no more than a training cone when up against quality passing midfielders

Spot on. When we play the other top 5 sides, always feels as though they identify him as a weakness. Close him down, hurry him, don't give him any space and he simply gets shown up badly. Liverpool and City always expose him and run rings round him. Last season when we went to the Emirates, they did the same.

Yes can do a job against a lot of the lesser sides in the league but he just isn't a top quality modern day DM. He is a million miles of Kante, Fabinho, Ndidi etc. Just so frustrating we have no other option there so he gets in by default.

Dier doesn't look bad against grafting midfields, he more than struggles with quick , technical ones. Worth having him imo because we have others that struggle against hard working mids.

Look good when he came on

Our midfield 2 are so isolated whoever they are

I actually thought we were best when Eriksen and GLC came on but then looked worse when GLC was shifted wider to allow Dier on. I want to see Skipp get some minutes. I've nothing against Dier but he's been really poor match after match in a really crucial position for us. I think he'd be so much better in a CM3 where his mobility and athleticism wouldn't be such an issue.

I know he's not everyones biggest fan but the stats show under jose when he doesn't play, we usually lose / don't win

Yep. We missed him today. Shame he was ill as I think he’d of made a difference. They were kicking us off the park in the middle today. With him in there it’s less likely to happen. Sissoko was poor today as Dier would have done a better job.

I think the club needs to be honest with us and tell us what this issue really is I feel so sorry for Eric himself.

There really does seem to be something seriously wrong with his immune system his body seems to be under a constant attack by something.

Hopefully a cure is found for it or we get to find out what actually really is wrong with him so we can lay off the abuse for him.

If this keeps up it’s likely his career won’t last very long.

He had appendicitis’s then since then there’s been non stop viruses and mystery illnesses it’s such a shame as we really could do with the vintage Eric dier but physically and mentally I don’t know if there’s anyway back for him

Another case of a player who isn't on the pitch all of a sudden gets rated higher. LOL.

Dier is absolutely terrible and stinks the team out whenever he plays. Dier wouldn't have solved anything. Our issue was we couldn't make a single pass, we couldn't keep the ball, how exactly would Dier have helped? He's awful on the ball.

Not at all. Even you must of noticed we’ve won more games when he’s started under Mourinho. I’ve maintained all along, and it’s frustrating to repeat myself again, that he’s required in the starting eleven. We’ve nobody else to shield the defence. We are unlikely to buy in January but if we do in central midfield, then his replacement can do the job but until then, he should start.

Honestly, I think it's more a coincidence that we won those games with Dier in mate. The sample size is far too small to suggest otherwise.

well, until we get a proper tackler in that midfield or spend all week training defending and hope the players can remember and follow instructions going into the next game, we are completely fucked if that is the case.

He's still more our only CM with the with defensive nous to know somewhat how to play as a defensive 6, even if some of his on the ball work leaves a lot to be desired. Stealing from Nathan A. Clark: "When Gazzaniga kung fu kicks someone against Chelsea and make a hash of things, it doesn't mean that we start the next game without a goalkeeper".

Until be buy a better DM, he's our best DM.
