Was solid today. Passing not always the best but he won every tackle and header (I don’t think any other player could of won as many headers on our team). Don’t think much more could of been asked of him. Looked very strong. Cork up against him gave him a good game though. I’ve never though he’s that bad a player.

It's much better to have him in front of the defence than it is to have Winks there thats for sure. He might not be great on the ball but his passing is sufficient and hes keeping it fairly simple now, not trying the Tobyesque balls or risky passes. Hes solid and doing his job well. Thought he was very solid today.

Great to hear.
Not a world beater but I think jose can improve him and he gives us so much better balance

Much better today. Gave us a solid shape defensively and won most of the second balls that came his way.

Is he now a one game a week player until he gets fully match fit ?

I know a lot pf Spurs fans don't like Dier and agree he has not been good recently. Yet being ill for a year is a massive thing for elite athletes for whom say a 5% drop in fitness can mean the difference between international football and mediocrity. Personally I have always liked Dier considering him to be a more intelligent footballer than most seem to give him credit for. I also believe he adds passion, fight and effort to our team when he is fit. I know Poch tried carefully to bring players back to fitness but maybe Jose giving the likes of Eric and Dele lots of games has a better handle on trying to get players he believes in match fit

No idea. He played three is a row before Man U so must be fairly close to full match fitness. He’ll have a week now to recharge and train in the position so that will help. As I’ve said all year, he’ll get back there as a player, he just needs the games in his legs.

Much, much better v Burnley (but still a way to go). Did well breaking stuff up and winning second balls but lapses in concentration don't matter in games like this. Against better opposition they could (and should) be very costly. I hope he continues to improve because he's a warrior and there will be times, unlike this match, when we really need that quality.

I think as Mourinho gets more settled and more time with the players Dier will become increasingly effective in DCM. Mourinho typically wants his DCM to be in defined spaces when the opposition transition - especially when they do things unique to them i.e. Jose’s requirements will change from game to game. Dier is an intelligent player in terms of taking instruction and executing. I think he will become Jose’s main on pitch organiser. For example, yesterday he was given a specific job to drop deep to win headers against their CF, letting our CBs drop off for he second ball. This nullified one of Burnley’s main offensive tactics.

Dier had a good game yesterday but Burnley style is perfect for Eric. He seem to struggle with fast pressing players and quick play imo

Definitely our best option in a game where we need someone to repeatedly win headers. Against 'tika-taka' play I am less sure.

I still haven't given up hope on Wanyama. Mourinho has said he just needs to play back to match fitness, but that it's difficult to give him playing time during this transition period. Perhaps the Bayern game is the perfect opportunity, giving Dier a rest but avoiding going back to the CM dynamic that failed against Man Utd.

Whatever you may think about his ability on the ball, he probably had more won tackles and interceptions than Winks/Sissoko have managed all season. Ideally, we would have someone like Fabinho there, but we don't. Seeing as we have so many midfielders that needs a DM beside them, but only one DM, I'd say he's among our most important players right now.

The seesaw of SC. One day he’s utter crap, the next he’s useful. He’s not a bad player. You will see him get back to his best very soon.

Why is he getting so much flack after a 5-0 win and a run of 4 wins from 5. This place is unreal

Haven’t watched whole match back just 1st half. I’d say he makes some good tackles and interceptions but were definitely few dodgy moments in there. Weirdest is when he literally stops playing on the halfway line and gets robbed and just doesn’t react. Even weirder just saw a clip of Kane 2nd goal. He lays it off to Dele who passes to Kane. But when he lays it off he sprints into the box about 30 yards never seen him run so fast. Maybe he’s playing within in himself. But you could see a massive difference between that sprint and his usual lumbering bit odd.

He was great in that midfield anchor, but he's still proper sluggish getting back into position. Lets hope he can get back up to speed.

Totally agree. Some very odd play.

The oddest thing about all this is that the club allowed this situation to develop where we have three DMs but none of them are fully fit and/or deemed ready. Surely most of the info about these players (and the subsequent imbalance of the team without a DM) has been known for some time and this could all have been prevented many months ago. Hindsight and all that...
