IMO £60m seems high for a striker who's had one good season in the PL.

I can't help but feel we should have gone for a top overseas striker target rather than Richarlison and now Solanke.

But it looks like that ship has sailed, and maybe I'm just out of touch with what £60 gets you these days.

As always with new players, I hope he smashes it.

Disappointed at first when we were linked, but signing makes lots of sense, low risk signing, high floor in terms of expected production, potential to explode.

Bergvall could be that guy
Even though he was playing left back, i thought Donley played the 'correct' pass more times than any other player in our friendlies - he's definitely not a left back and i doubt Ange failed to notice how good his pass selection in the final 1/3 was.

Ah that's better. I don't do Twitter so I am only reacting to individual tweets that get posted here.

As I say every year transfer windows are fluid and things are constantly changing, when one target changes that may have a domino effect on what else we do.

It's starting to look like the bulk of our money was going to be spent on Neto and Eze with one more a cheaper option(probably a CF). With Eze now very unlikely it looks like the money has switched in that we will spend more on a CF and get a lesser option(value wise) instead of Eze.

*Just theorizing.
I thought the same as soon as Solanke's name was linked strongly.

Makes sense. There isn't really an alternative to Eze in that position so why continue shopping in the cheaper CF bin. May as well get one higher up the list and spend bigger on a winger too.

I said instead of buying both Richarlison and Solanke. That's a lot of money in total for two strikers that seemingly weren't/aren't being courted by the clubs we're competing with.

I'm not a football scout, so I don't need to find the solution. I just feel they're both overvalued.

And as I said, that's not mutually exclusive with supporting whoever puts on our shirt.

Im still not 100% sure about him. And 60m is high.

However, none of that matters if;

1. He fits Ange's system and he wants him.
2. He scores between 15-25 goals per season and we improve our retention in attack

no such "top overseas striker" would join us even we spend like 120m (Richy+Solanke) on him considering our status

Kane, Bale, Son, Klinsmann are the only players to score 19+ goals in the premier league for Spurs, in a single season...

When you put it like that I can kind of get on board with it. If Solanke produces two or three seasons like what he just did, it would be hard to call it a bad signing given the company he would be in, the market, home-grown etc. It's a big if though.

Richarlison was signed 2 years ago, it's not like we signed them both in the same window.

I'd much rather have 2 strikers who fit our system and have proven they are capable of performing at a Premier League level, to spending £100m on one player who may or may not be able to hack the Prem. On top of that as we've established there is such a lack of top quality centre forwards available currently that the really top tier ones (likes of Osimhen, Martinez etc.) probably wont want to come to us.

Not to derail the thread too much, but Devine was that guy for me. Donley played it safe a few more times than I'd like given better more rewarding options (I think he still shies away from physical contact a bit when in possession to be a regular at present, but he'll come good with proper care/development).

Devine's aggression you could tell was due to a season out on loan playing with and again seasoned vets in physically brutal environments. So he didn't shy away from being right in the thick of things and he was positive, direct and accomplished with a lot of his passes which created some good chances throughout the preseason matches.

On Topic:

Looking forward to healthy competition more than anything else this season as Ange said last season something along the lines of "with the squad we have, complacency can set in but with a stronger squad all it takes is a few matches on the bench and a player's replacement steps in and does the business and that will sort that complacency right out."

Solanke now provides that for Richy, and vice versa.

Agreed on the 100% but two things are promising. He is an aerial threat when our wingers cross the ball and that adds another dimension to how the opposition will need to defend, That will also create space for other players as he will have to be tightly marked and in some cases by a couple of players. Second, he is an upgrade when it comes to pressing which means even more chances for others. If our wingers can somehow miraculously become more clinical, he could be an astute pick up.

With such certainty you must be significantly more informed than me, so I'll concede the point.

Which is also a perfectly valid view and I hope they both have fantastic seasons for us.

I'd personally still like another in to challenge Maddison and provide the creative spark that we lack when he is not on form.
But is there going to be a cheap option to do that? If we're now spending on Solanke and we still want Neto the likes if Eze and Doue will be too much.
