If he was £30-35m and a replacement for Richarlison who would actually be available more regularly for us, it wouldn’t be a terrible move.

For £65m as a marquee attacking signing though? Absolutely insane if we do it.
We have form for this level of player and fees with Johnson

Richarlison, Deki and Lankshear (I want Son kept firmly wide left) is serviceable this year.

Spend the money elsewhere on much needed areas - none more so than RWF

There's no way I want that level of spend on Solanke in comparison to a Sesko or Openda and should we sell Richarlison this summer then we need to go all out on Gyokeres.

Personally I'd rather just not bother getting a CF this year if Solanke is the best we can target.
I think we are going to be short if we don’t get another striker but Solanke at the prices mentioned doesn’t seem like great value. I’m a bit on the fence…

Absolutely this. It's makes sense if we have been feeling out clubs so far, but as of next week I think triggers need to start being pulled one way or the other.

If these links are true then it is encouraging that we are looking at the CF position. I'll ask you this because I trust your knowledge... a name that came up on the BBC round up this morning was Tammy Abraham (not in relation to us). How do you see him profiling in comparison to Solanke?
Agree completely. I’m really hoping we can convince Neto to come and do the deal because i feel that will kick start the rest of our business. We know he is Ange’s no 1 target so it will be a big boost if we manage to snag him.

Out of the two I’m taking Solanke all day. Problem with Tammy is his injuries. He only managed 8 league games last season due to an ACL. Even the season before that he only managed 8 goals in 38 games. Roma have been going through a long period of turmoil tho which with the appointment of De Rossi finally looks to be coming to end. He got them playing some good football last season and have made some excellent moves in the current window. I do actually think there is a solid striker in there (I don’t think he’s near the required level tho) but i wouldn’t take the risk. At 26 I struggle to see him ever leading the line in a top 5/6 team. At this point in his career I think he needs a move to a solid mid level team in the PL and get back to being a regular starter. Certainly not one for us at this point.

eze deal from what i know only gets done if we activate that release clause . Parish and co won’t negotiate they have no reason to they don’t wanna lose him. We have looked into a higher fee with structured payments but they want that ballon payment not 12 mill a year . They don’t typically back down and I don’t see why they should !

So basically, they’ve said put up or shut up, and we’ve shut up essentially. Sounds about right. I know, it’s probably gonna come across negative, but this stadium was supposed to let us get these deals done ( yes I know it’s complicated, yes I know it’s a high fee) but I don’t see anyone who will probably be able to come in, but the ground running and is ready made, tried and tested in the league.

Really wish we’d just act like big club, yes there is always a risk etc - but come on. As long as we’ve done ALL due diligence and we don’t get another Ndombele situation it’s a no brainer for me.
Sorry for the long post so early, but my god. We’ve barely improved the starting
11 from last season and we was 23 points off our rivals.

Johnson was just 22 when we bought him though. Solanke is turning 27 next month. That's a big difference.
Good point - if we’re looking at HG and it’s a choice between Solanke or Toney I’m talking Solanke all day

would only take him if it meant selling Richarlison...otherwise prefer Lankshear, Scarlett get chances...still think both those wouldn't do any worse than Richardson..

Last year wasn’t a one off, it was a natural progression.

To be fair, there's absolutely no way you can be certain of that. Yeah, he's more or less trebled his output from the year before, but so did Berahino once upon a time. It may be indicative of progression, or it may be indicative of a one-off season. We just cannot tell that until the end of next season. By which time, it'll be too late if we've already splashed out 60 odd million nicker...

I think many are under rating Solanke and just want a sexy foreign name in Gyokores.

I think that's highly unlikely, not least because the Nigerian surname Solanke is just as much a sexy, foreign name as the Hungarian surname Gyökeres.

Indeed, some might say sexier...

What is a sign of ambition?

Scorpio.

And also Aries.

I don’t dislike Solanke but at that price I’d rather put the money on another quality AM/WF alongside Neto then next summer go for Openda’s €70 mil RC.

With Neto and Johnson for the right, and Son and Werner left, and Solomon and Moore also options, why prioritize Chiesa,as well?

Any loose change better spent on an LB prospect like Locko. Doubt there'd be any left over though
Yea fair I was assuming Solomon might not be in the plans and don’t know how regularly Moore will play but Ange will work the puzzle out so all good but agree Locko would be good.

At the end of the day none of us know our full budget or know who we are planning to/likely to sell or which players Ange has in mind to give minutes to or not so we don’t know exactly which combination of incomings would be optimal.

However taking a guess if we signed Neto and Solanke that should give us a pretty strong and varied set of attacking options, I’m just concerned that if Neto gets injured then our wide players are basically back to the same as last season plus mabye some minutes from Moore who only 16 and in Ange’s system the wide players being top top quality is so important, arguably more important than the striker as the striker of all goes to play just finishes off the moves.

I actually don't think Solanke would be a bad player - if it was closer to the £35/£40mil mark and a more consistently available replacement for Richarlison.

Feels like an opportunity standby. If Richarlison moves on, we go for either Solanke or Toney, whichever is the best deal for us. PL experienced strikers, and HG also.

Yeah, I think the headline figure of his release clause is putting people off. But I’d be flabbergasted if we paid that. The stats people are posting about his running and pressing numbers outline why he’d be a good signing for us.

At the same time I do understand why people wouldn’t see him as the significant upgrade we’d all like. But let’s see what happens.

He’s a solid PL player who improves our squad and fits our system.

However he is not a sign of ambition.
There's judging signings based on name only at the end of the window (as they haven't played in the shirt) and there's reviewing new signings at the end of the season, after 12 months of bedding in and adapting to the club.
