Agree with all the above. I doubt the goals will ever pour - he strikes me as more of a 12 to 15 goal a season type player (even accounting for his last season), but that’s fine by me, given what he offers

He's the one player who has shocked me the most. Even though I hadn't seen a lot of him at Bournemouth I wasn't expecting a great deal, maybe the old goal here and there. It felt like the usual piss poor signing we make, spunking more money on a bang average player.
Can honesty say I couldn't have been more wrong. He is going to be such an important player for us in so many ways.

He's doing a brilliant job. I would just love it if he started getting some service and banging some goals in, just for his own happiness and pride at contributing towards the score sheet. Don't want him getting frustrated

Didn't manage to get too involved last night as the game became a bit stop-start with what felt like dozens of AZ fouls late on, however one thing which I had never appreciated until the last few games was this guy's dribbling ability. It feels like every game he manages to get out of some impossibly tight situation with 2 or 3 players around him. It's really impressive for a 6' player who isn't exactly renowned for his dribbling.

Amazing team player.

Is there any concern that he might be a bit Soldado like?
Soldado was a really good footballer, popular with the fans, worked hard, played well…..but didn’t score enough.
Is there any feeling yet that Solanke could be in the same mould?
Today’s game, when it is scrappy and chances are hard to come by, that is when you hope your very expensive striker can find something!
I’m not saying this is the case, I’m asking opinions.

For me, not at all.

Solanke is a really good target man. Strong, holds the ball up well and plays in his team mates while chipping in with a few goals.

Soldado had no real physical attributes and was meant to be a poacher for us. The goals didn't come for him and he tried to adapt his game, which didn't work either.

Solanke can score 10 league goals a season and be a real asset. Soldado scoring 10 league goals is a passenger.

Will be more concerned when he actually gets some decent chances to miss.

I’ve been surprised at how little service he’s got generally, even in matches where we’ve played well. Thought Ange teams laid everything on a plate for the striker?

I thought he was our best player today. Had nothing to go on, worked his nuts off, as ever. There’s no need to look for problems where there are none.

Our xg was <1, can't blame strikers in those situations especially when they can hold the ball, dribble etc. Start creating chances and he will score what he is supposed to.

I’m more concerned that he’s going to lose confidence and focus because he’s not getting the chances he was getting at Bournemouth last season.
Works his nuts off but a forwards confidence is ultimately built on scoring goals and we aren’t creating enough for him at the moment

Quality player, but I'd like to see him play further forward in games like this. If Maddison and Kulusevski aren't up for it - DK gets a pass for his obvious concussion (EPL is so far behind the world here) - then Dom dropping deep to hold the ball up and play into the wingers means we have nobody up top.

Johnson is a good player, but he's not a world beater and blows hot and cold. Moore is 17. We had nothing up top on the rare occassions it ended up in the box today.

He's a good player but not good enough in the final third if we want to push on. Happy with him to replace Richarlison. I get that he doesn't get too many chances at times but he also misses some of the ones that come. Also you have to make your own chances at times which he doesn't do enough. His hold up and link play is excellent and his press works great if the rest of the team is pressing forward. Trouble is always going to be we had Kane before so always a big task for any centre forward to come in. Maybe part of the issue is not having top wide forwards though. Going from Kane and Son so long to a declining Son with Solanke and Jonnson isn't great.

Agree, I think we have way overspent on him personally. Over £100m on him and Richy is criminal.

I wanted to put a shout out for him tonight, I thought he ran himself into the ground, worked hard in areas of the pitch that aren't his to police., made himself available, held the ball up well and closed down relentlessly. Thankless task he does for the team, a proper team man.
