We only spent 60m on Richie, because we wanted insurance in the event that Kane left IMO

If we got 60m on Richie, I reckon we'd spend (approx) 30m on a back up to Dom, and use 30m to boost the coffers for elsewhere.

Depth is crucial, yes, but only when we have a first team who are all worth north of 60m, can we realistically justify that amount on a back up
But I guess it depends if you view it as back up? If striker is a key position, then if it is the one position we've spent money on backup then fine. We haven't exactly spent money on back up else where. We still have a couple of key positions to fill as back up and it all depends on outgoings. We hardly spent much money this summer and massively reduced our wage bill.

We've done this topic to death, but how many other teams have two key strikers (and I mean proper 9s), of approximately the same age and quality, vying for one position?

Of the top European or Premier League clubs, I can't think of one. Literally not a single one. There's always a pretty clear hierarchy. Maybe Arsenal or Liverpool, but even then, the players that notionally cover 9 (Jota, Jesus, Nunez) are more than capable out wide.

We would be buying a player who would only really cover 9 - I just don't think that's very effective squad/cash management.

I don't think there's a chance we go for Gyokeres, even if we sell Richie, unless we think he can cover positions other than 9.

Maybe I got a little carried away....

Just Eze and Williams in January I suppose.
On a serious note we've already made our move now with the young prospects. It's going to be really difficult to add more senior players now. So up front we may want to keep a path open for Lankshear (most likely) ,Veliz or Scarlett. We maybe will keep Richarlison as a stop gap while one finds their feet. Similar with Werner as a stop gap for Odebert, Yang and Moore out wide while Son is getting older too (and he also can cover up front a times). So I think we just need to be patient now for those young players coming through. At most maybe we could get someone versatile like Eze who can play central or on the left. Other than that I can't see us signing much in attack next year. Solanke will be clear first choice but if we got a new striker and Lankshear breaks out one of them is hardly playing. It's difficult to have 3 strikers when you play 2 up top. Better to have a versatile player who can cover up top on the odd occasion 2 are out (Kulusevski or Son).

Wish he hadn't been called up as I'd prefered for him to get 2 weeks rest after a busy spell.

If he start tonight and against Brighton (he will) that's 5 matches in 2 weeks for someone just back from an injury. 3 away matches in 8 days.

Maybe I'm worrying about nothing, just would be so typical if he goes down at the end of such a hectic period considering his recent injury.

I'm glad he's got the call up. Sure he'll be buzzing. And it's not like he's gonna play 180 minutes for England anyway.

I think its a good thing. Was only a knock he had before, and the more he plays right now the better it’ll be for him after missing the early games this season.

Don’t imagine he will play much for England. So basically just continued training.

Who in the first 11 isn’t worth that kind of money?

Really enjoying him in this team. He's got a great football brain and meshing well with the rest of the team.

Love how he is playing right now. Got the “pre-assist” too if that’s a thing. He brings in team mates very well and has a nice weight of pass it seems. Always hustling CBs. Loving his work.

That’s why stats can be misleading. He is crucial in making Maddison’s goal but Werner gets the assist for a 5 yard pass.
Assist for Brennan was wonderful play.
