I have been trying to say similar this pre season. Johnson would have had more than his 10 assists (which is still good).
Yes we want another wide man but people are automatically disregarding Johnson but if Ange still wants to play the same way and create in the same ways then Johnson has a role to play
Agreed. Werner and Johnson are great at getting to the bye line and cutting it back. Johnson is decent at getting on the end as well, but Werner is awful (he tends to stand directly behind his man instead of either pushing goal side or trying to get in front) and in any case a centre forward who makes that run would have got 20 goals last year easily. I’m not sure how good solanke is but he does look an ideal fit with his pressing and penalty box movement, I think he’ll get 20 for us easily if he stays fit

I assume because you have taken out the number games he came on as a sub, you have also taken out any assist or goal he scored whilst doing so?
Thank you for giving me more (justifiably sarcastic) credit than I'm due. 😁

Excluding penalties total goal contributions per 90 in PL is 0.37

Some other players out of interest:

Son 0.73
Watkins 0.58
Kulusevski 0.49
Werner 0.46
Toney 0.44
Richarlison 0.44
Johnson 0.43

Not a bad stat, though I'd argue (I may well be wrong) that Solanke has probably made significantly more sub appearances during his Prem career than those other players. And I'd say substitute minutes do increase the difficulty of getting goal contributions.

It was just a basic stat I guess. And I didn’t mean to do Solanke down as clearly the narrative has been that he’s improved over the past year or two. Would be interesting if you cut the sample size of the other players to their first 2-3 years in the PL to see how he would compare.

has he been given a squad number?
Strangley he's not even on the website 1st team squad list yet but that is headlined 23/24 even though some details like loans have been updated. He will have to have a number by Monday , I believe 25 is free maybe we should give him that and make that his goal target for the season.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on new signing Dominic Solanke: "Thankfully it's what we expected. He's a top pro and a good guy, he's settled into the dressing room really well.

"Football wise you can see he has all the attributes we need. He still needs time to fit in. He's fitting in well with the group and training. We've still got a couple of training sessions to go but he's doing well. He should be [available on Monday]."

Solanke had a bit of pre-season as he went to LA with Bournemouth to play Arsenal , should be fit enough to at least start on Monday, after he has scored a hat trick can take him off.

Not sure if this has already been posted but this has raised my expectations to Solanke winning the Golden Boot this year to go with our Premier League trophy...

In the middle he talks about pressing stats and I'm really surprised we were so high. I remember us pressing a lot more than previous seasons but I didn't realise that we were successful in our tackles so much more than other teams.

I'm expecting squad numbers to be finalised today. He didn't have one on his shirt for the media access day.

Thanks for the link. Interesting watch especially for someone like myself who is fairly non-plussed about him. Good to see what he is all about.

Thanks for the link, I really enjoyed the tactical analysis on Solanke backed up with the evidence of you he should be a great fit for Spurs 😀

He has to be waiting for the #18 shirt, otherwise he’d have taken 19, or maybe even 11 (although that’s as bad as having #2 for a centre forward). Personally, I’d have taken 19 if I were him, as it’s closest to 9. With his love of Defoe tho, I can see why he’s waiting. It was also Klinsmann’s number which he made famous for us.
