Yeah defo could tell he thought it was BS, which it clearly was.
I think I would go as far as to say what Ange said was quite manipulative. Said all down to Djed and credit to him but then went on to explain how in fact the stuff Ange himself did was really the crucial thing that got Spence to where he needed to be so actually was trying to take credit and being manipulative by covering himself by saying it’s all down to Spence.

If that was the case you just bat away the question and say Spence always worked hard, was patient, got his chance and took it 100% credit him. Question over. But he didn’t do that and instead felt it necessary to explain how he had to make life difficult for Spence and that is why he’s so good now. My feeling is that if Ange had god sacked last week Spence’s comments in that interview would’ve been similar to his comments about Conte.

Enjoyed that interview. Sounds like a good lad. If anything he seems the opposite of how he has been depicted. Probably needs to push himself forward more.

Concerning that he didn't feel we had that one vocal leader or there isnt that voice when things arent going well in game to tighten up when its getting away from us.
Both points are things fans have highlighted from the outside looking in but it's worrying when a young player has that feeling.

Also that they arent allowed to change the way they play when under the cosh.

Its as I thought, he's just such a low key individual and I can see why someone like Warnock and Conte would interpret that as aloofness or disinterest.

I feel Ange brought him into the starting XI purely because he had no other choice, rather than some grand plan. Which is completely fine if you ask me. Redknapp only gave Bale his start because Benni bust his leg. And like the latter, Djed took his chance and made himself undroppable. I really don't think there's any further nuance than that.

Funnily enough it reminds me a little of Benni... a really low key person off the pitch, but nothing other than professional if not excellent on the pitch.

So it was pure luck from Ange's perspective? Why didn't he just send him out on loan again like every other manager did? I know everyone doesn't rate Ange but running obvious positives is a bit crap.

yeah I thought the same. I think lots, probably including me, thought he was a certain character and it seems he’s anything but. If anything he’s how I want footballers to be. Down to earth, professional, having their own mind, confident in their ability, a little arrogance and ability to back it up. He also has the aggression. I suspect if we had a few more characters like that the club would be better for it. I suspect he has a career plan and we are only part of it.

Not like Greavsie and Hoddle spoke perfect RP English, let’s not get started on Dawson yorkshire accent! This is a consequence of where people grew up, parents, friends, background. It’s who you are. How would you want him to sound, what’s acceptable for you?

product of their environment sometimes, is the actual answer.

I have 3 boys, the 2 youngest, I'd say speak rather posh compared to me (pretty common accent myself), however my eldest, spent a shit load of time as his football club, full time since 14, and he talks pretty much like Djed - although I've always been pretty hard on him about how he talks, I've just had to accept that its purely a product of his environment, basically he has been 'dumbed' down, kid hasn't picked up a pen in years or read a book !

Can you give any other examples of other footballers who talk in that accent? You said "all" footballers. Can you give us all more examples of what you meant?

Is that basically not just (1) a criticism of his accent (which is a personal preference, up to you) and (2) a reflection of the demographic that represent a good portion of English footballers?

It’s not the like they put it on

A bit of a harsh/unfairly critical comment IMO
