Think he probably needs selling in Jan. If he can’t get a start ahead of Gray then it’s pretty clear Ange doesn’t rate him and so doesn’t have a future here.

💯 agree mate.

Look at house much Chelsea rotated yesterday ahead of their game with us, yes it was away vs Southampton but still rotation is needed in this busy period and Porro has had zero rest, Spence did well in his appearances this season, he saved us from going out of the Carabao cup, if he’s not played tonight and is fit then it’s clearly something else going on, be it attitude issues etc.
We have rotated Porro, it's just that Gray is trusted more at RB than Spence is.

Negligence from all involved. It's clear Ange doesn't trust him, and we've basically ended up a player short in the squad.
Levy/Ange/Lange sent the squad into a 55-60 game season with two fullbacks and an 18-year-old midfielder as cover.

Needs sold if he's going to be left out in the cold like this. It just highlights our terrible squad building and planning

Looks great pre season, saves ours and Ange's ass against Coventry and still doesn't get a look in.

In my humble opinion he is better than Gray is at this time so there is defo something afoot here beyond football.

lessons have been learned

Couldn’t sell Gil for windows and he got a new contract.
Big Difference, Gil had 1 year left on his contract and we extended by an extra year to allow him to go out on loan so we could try and sell him. Spence had almost 3 years left.

He is definitely not a better player than Gray. Spence is quick and direct but he can't defend for toffee. At least with Gray, although he isn't quick, he plays with his head up, is very good on the ball, press resistant and creative. Gray is also the future of the club and it doesn't look like Spence is. I can totally see why Gray is getting the nod.

Perhaps the new deal was to increase the fee we get for him.
perhaps he hasn't impressed as much in training ...
Perhaps Ange really wants Archie to get more first team minutes in the league
I don't fully understand it but
A) there are tonnes of expanations
B) the furore about him not starting has gotten to people shouting at the sky levels

But if he's regressed to being a bit of a dick again, not inconceivable, then Ange has done nothing wrong. Have him a chance to prove himself worthy of staying in the squad, so contract extension, but didn't sustain it.
I really want Spence to be successful but Ange doesn't fuck about with this stuff. It's why he never gets pally with the squad, he stays detached and is ruthless

BUT the thing here is that Gray has a huge ceiling so getting him used to PL football will huge in the long-term.

Spence is obviously not doing enough in training to convince them.

It may be because defensively he still has lapses. It may be that Gray follows the commands much better.

It may be Gray's first prem start, but he has significantly more minutes at full back than Spence this season so it makes perfect sense that he's first option for rotation.

Also I wonder if Ange doesn't want to do double rotation at fullback so that's why Udogie starts at LB today. I doubt Spence starts against Chelsea, but I think his minutes will come at LB over the xmas period.

It does seem strange that he isn't getting much chance to show something. At this point we don't really know whether he is good enough, fit enough, training well enough or anything.

However despite the supporter logic we have being on the bench tonight doesn't define whether he is any of those.

We'll see if he (or Reggie 🤣) get any minutes later.

Nothing to say his terms drastically changed? It really doesn’t make much odds as he will be sold shortly

I'm sorry but I just don't buy it. Porro is a very good player but has a lot of deficiencies. When he's visibly knackered and running on one leg after 75 minutes, to tell me that Ange still thinks Spence can't be trusted to come on is a wild take. He's a brilliant player. Maybe he's not good enough for us long term, but he's definitely good enough to be getting some minutes right now.
Strangely, Spence has been good enough to come on in other games at LB

This is full blown nonsense and we all know it.
he’ll still be here or on loan all over again until we sell him for a nominal fee

I’m a Djed stan and lament that he hasn’t been given a truly fair chance when every time he gets on the pitch he seems to prove his value.

That said, it’s time to sell. For his sake as much as ours. Pity, that.
Conte didn't fancy he either, must be an attitude/application thing as the kid clearly has talent.
