His training ethos or perceived lack of is clearly subjective. Ange even alludes to how he’s training “well”

What isn’t subjective is that he’s made an impact when it counts on match day and allowing respite for Porro in particular being run into the ground needlessly.

It’s also a shit message sent out and conflicted with Spence being provided with a new contract.
But Ange doesn't give out the contract, if its to keep his sale value up then its nothing to do with him playing or not.

Do hear you but have to agree with Ange that all this talk of a big turn around for him from our fans was a little odd.

Impressed in some pre season games .

But yeah does need to be actually given the opportunity to see whether a major turn around could happen
It's deflection, though, Ali didn't ask if he thought he had turned his career around, he asked why he isn't playing.

he's just not great in training. Nothing more to see. He needs to be more professional and consistent by the sounds of it and it also sounds like he is good but not good enough regularly, particularly at defending at this level which he has worked 1 on 1 with the coaching staff many times
Yet Ange says he is training well and training hard. Where are you hearing that he needs to be more professional and consistent in training, because Ange didn't say it?

Absolutely zero evidence that he’s not training well from anywhere. For me it smacks of a weak defence from the manager for not rotating him in more often.

Only read the comments, so may come across differently when spoken, but I'd be a bit disheartened as a player if I heard my manager say "just cause he's hung around".

Yeah, cheers gaffer....

Spence has signed a new contract, but some reason, he is not playing.

Reggie is apparently winding down his contract, but for some reason, he is not playing.

Both, according to the manager, are "training well".

This whole thing with our backup FBs is just bizarre.

It's quite simple for me when you look at Porro's spirit and quality it would be very hard for Ange not to play him.

My suspicion and I could be wrong is that Gray was promised minutes when he signed for us ahead of Brentford and he is taking the minutes from the better player in Spence.

A few years ago Poch completely ran Danny Rose into the ground due to us not having a back up LB. The same thing is happening to Porro now, only the bizarre thing is that we do have a back up RB in Spence.

I understand he may not be in a position to start, but Ange really needs to ease the burden on Porro and give Spence 10 mins or so at the end of games.

Ange should have taken Porro off on the weekend, he wasn't the same after his fall

We had a back-up from Poch's first season - Ben Davies. In fact, many people thought Davies was coming in to replace Rose.

Now, the season before Poch - in the AVB/Sherwood season - Rose was injured, and we had no back up, which required Vertonghen to slide over - and he was not happy about that - hence we signed Davies that summer - while we were on tour in the US.

So, I am not sure what you are remembering - but it was not that we had no back up LB.

Ange could literally play him out wide on the right instead of Johnson. At least he might track back and help. Just another situation of ange being too stubborn imo.

It's annoying because I just spent the last 10 minutes trying to find the video i'm going to refer to, but can't.

There was a video posted, I think, on the Spurs official Instagram account within the last 3-6 months, it was a light hearted shooting video, possibly dead ball/free kick practice? A few players were involved but can only remember Djed and Son, long story short, I remember Spence didn't come across well for me, seemed quite arrogant, and albeit it just a tiny snippet, came across like he was a baller without much substance.

Could be a whole lot of nothing, but that's the vibe he gave off and I remember at the time finding it off putting.

Could simply be he's just a bit of a knob, could be training decently etc, but my guess is he's possibly a bit full of himself and doesn't have a very likeable personality.

If he's alienating himself from his team mates, it could just be a harmony thing.

He is Udogie’s best mate at the club apparently!

i don't think there's any great mystery. ange just doesn't rate spence all that highly and doesn't rate reguilon at all.

I do wonder if he is struggling to do what Ange wants. Maybe he isn't great at taking in information or thinks he knows best?

If he is fit and training well (which suggests attitude is good) it's the only reason I can think of why he wouldn't be getting minutes - even if only the last 20 minutes of games.

Yes, but knowing Ange, the quickest way to get Spence into the team is to say nothing about it.

Ange will go to any lengths to prove he is not listening to fans/commentators when he picks the team.
