Goalkeeper although much played between the ears with decision making and calculating each drop of the ball or trajectory is very much a young man’s game. All the diving and contact takes its toll on someone’s body over a long career and you need to have that explosive speed and power to make fast movements and reset quickly after. Not comfortable with Forster as No.2 at all and if we can’t trust the younger lads then I think it’s really bad squad management for a club of our stature.

I'm not sure about that because plenty of keepers go on til nigh on 40 and still perform well, and have done for donkeys.

The trouble with keepers is that you rarely manage to get (and keep hold of) a decent no.2 if they're young.

The very best ones can. That’s not plenty though when you’re talking thousands of players worldwide. My statement is still very much generally true.

From today's presser:
It feels like a while ago now but you had to select the Europa League 23-man squad. Djed Spence was left out. How difficult a decision was that and and how has he kind of taken that news?

I'm disappointed. Ali's [football.london's chief Tottenham Hotspur reporter Alasdair Gold] not here because this was his baby! But, look, it was always going to be a difficult decision. Obviously with the makeup of our squad currently – you are always going to have to leave somebody out and Djed was the unfortunate one.
But at the same time, Djed's already played in the Premier League and, if you asked him at the start of the year where he sees himself, I think the fact that he's part of our squad and will obviously play a huge part in our year because he has already. I don't think you should take too much disappointment. Obviously everyone wants to play, but in the end it was about team B for us and we just feel that with the squad we've got, we've got some cover on the right side.
[We] got some players you can cover on the left side. I always tend to go for more attacking players in those kind of scenarios, so Djed misses out, but, as I said, he's already played in you know a couple of games in the Premier League. There will be plenty of football for him if he keeps going like he is.

Already been said but what a travesty he’s watching on the sidelines in Europe whilst we have one the Ents in goal as a reserve.

Delighted for the lad though and can absolutely make a difference domestically for us

Did well tonight, made a difference and took his goal well. Looks so much better going forward than defensively imo.

Shows great desire, even when he got round their defender and got a toe on the ball back for the Kulu chance.

his rapidness coupled with that makes him an asset.

i think Warnock was right when he said Djed can be anything he wants it just depends on his attitude and application.

Big fan of him. Obviously isn’t ideal defensively on the left and got wrong footed once or twice but was still out best player along with Kulu. Look forward to seeing him at RB. Should be starting in the EL.

He showed more desire than almost all the other players, got to remember he was being played out of position as well.

Almost created a goal from sheer determination too.

The quote was “premier league or non league”. It’s up to DJed

Cost is a goal, but also scored us a goal and got us back into it.

Showed good character and determination after the mistake, arc is still on!
