We have to remember that although Spence has worked his way back into Ange's thoughts and first team squad he is still unproven at PL level. He is no way guaranteed anything so although surprising to us that he would be given first team minutes in Europa league he is still working towards what Ange wants.

I reckon it is just a squad seniority thing. Ange did not want to upset a popular senior pro, and Spence wasn't a shiny new big money signing, so he was the one to make way.

Disappointing; I thought Ange had more balls.

Shouldve made the squad. Anyone dressing it up as anything other than a poor decision is clutching at straws.

Perhaps there are reasons we're unaware of, but as it stands currently it's flat out stupidity.

Serious questions because he left out a guy everyone wanted out of the club 2 months ago, but they changed his tune because a few preseason games 🤣🤣

Exactly.

Someone had to be left out. But i'm sure whoever it was, fans would be outraged.

IF spence did something wrong, then the club has failed by keeping him after the transfer window

IF spence hasn't been selected because of UEFA rules, then Ange needs to take this on the chin, or the club as a fuck up

It's definitely the latter. Ally asked him maybe 2 press conferences ago about any concerns regarding HG for EL and Ange pretty much said it's not a concern of his and he'll put out a team he feels will be competitive.

That's his fuck up then. Forster shouldn't be selected ahead of spence

We also have 7 players not including Mikey Moore fighting for 3 spaces. Genuinely moronic especially since we just loaned out someone who would have fulfilled the HG club association quota as well

Yes, but five years?
I suppose you need to keep a group of keepers around the first team for training purposes, like we've kept Whiteman for years.
No doubt they're on very low wages, for a football player at least, and provide a good presence in the keeper group.

So I reckon they're kept around for training, rather than with a view of ever getting serious first team minutes.
Let's face it, it's not a bad job to have either.
I'd happily take 5 grand a week (for example) to train with my mates and hang about at the lodge, better than most normal jobs they'd likely get.

He's not PL proven so he leaves him out of the biggest non-PL comp we're in where he might get the minutes needed to impress Ange et al.

Let's hope the club just really doesn't rate, well, any of our keepers aside from Vicario because if the above is true the decision is even dumber.

How does him not being in the squad make sense based on the above quotes

You think Ange needs more balls to 'checks notes' put Spence into the European squad? Why is that? Would the backlash have been that big if he had?

Without knowing anything that has gone on behind the scenes, or any insight into Ange's thinking on the Europa League roster - not worth getting too worked up over. A decision has been taken, we live with the consequences.
Decisions are always made but doesn't mean you have to agree and cannot comment.

Spence not in the squad makes no sense - covers both RB and LB and is a good option to start. Many are already concerned at lack of cover at LCB and LB and giving the main incumbents little time to rest is illogical. It's not like we have a large defensive pool of players.

Devine would probably have got little game time but again could easily have stayed short term to boost squad (believe qualified as club trained home grown)

And why Forster has to take up a HG spot lord knows

Yes we live with the consequences but it's hard to see the logic of the decisions made

Gutted to be honest, myself and for Spence after all the work he had put in. Always frustrates me when we don't rotate enough and Spence would have been perfect for half our European games

BREAKING NEWS: Manager gives positive public messages about one of his players. More at 6!

He hasn't said anything apart from he is training well & fit in. He said maybe he can help us & hopefully bring up the floor. We literally have no insight right now as to why he is out but people are freaking out because of DJED SPENCE 🤣 . Imagine Ange trots out a back 3 for the first EL game.

Whiteman is injured so he can't be loaned, and it was a free hit.

The issue is whether Archer is trusted to be no.2 if he is, then its absurd to have Forster in the squad in place of someone actually making a difference

If he isn't, why is he at the club and you can't go for an U21 keeper. Not to mention why in your right mind do you think Forster is good enough. That in itself is insane.

Its because we don't have all the facts - and simply fill in the gaps with our own thoughts and biases.

On the face of it - I agree completely - but, we just don't know what Ange knows or was thinking. So, no use getting too worked up over it. Thats all.

Yeah I don't disagree with that. I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to keeping track of players' contracts and him and Whiteman have basically been signing 2-year deals since they left the academy. Then last season he spent a fair amount of time on the bench with Forster's injury, so when we suddenly gave him a 5-year deal in the summer I figured that must mean that Ange was comfortable with him as a back-up. But naming 4 keepers and 6 defenders in the Europa squad now makes me think that Ange isn't comfortable with him as a back-up, so I'm back to wondering why suddenly the long deal, if that makes sense!
