Keep working hard Djed!

Putting my body-language-expert glasses on, you walk like that when you feel you earned the right to, after you put in a shift of honest hard work.
Needless to say it's another bonding experience with those around him.

struggled a bit against gnabry, but plays the inverted fullback role on the left well.
keep djed and we have a back-up on either fullback in PL while challenging Udogie & Porro for a starting spot.
good rotation player for cup games & does not hurt that he's young and english.

an extremely good bonus for this years squad that we did not really think of before this preseason.

I'm not sure what to take from his performance yesterday. The best left fullback in the world would have struggled against Gnabry the way we played yesterday. Most of the time Spence was at a hiding to nothing as he'd inverted to receive the ball. Bayern had pressed us, won it back quickly and then Spence had to run back and was not goal side of Gnabry. Better ball retention from the team (and a better overall performance) and he'd undoubtedly cope better.

Promising signs are that he didn't get skinned 1v1 often and can clearly defend in those situations.

Exactly, and on the last point that’s not easy for players defending on their wrong side (especially when the winger goes outside).

Agreed, with the way we were setup and the quality of opposition he did ok.

The most important thing about his performance was that he kept going, always tracking back, always trying the right things. Also (from memory) his first time at left back which in our system is a hell of a job. It'll be interesting to see if he plays against Bayern (2nd leg).

With the phasing out of Walker and Trippier.

It would only take a month or two of consistent performances and it wouldn’t be unthinkable to see Djed rival TAA for the RB spot with the national team.

Assuming Ben White is still “unavailable” for selection.

A long-way to go, but nothing quite like a redemption story to restore some optimism.

Still a lot to prove but he certainly appears to be giving it his best shot which is all we can ask right now.

I think you might be over reacting with the England shout. He's going to have to knuckle down all year, being happy rotating with Porro all while learning the intricacies of the system. It's not going to be smooth sailing and he will get caught out at times. Unless he's completely faultless I cannot see the England coach bringing him in for another year.

Well aren’t you a little ray of sunshine!

Just seen the latest tweet about Vanderson and it got me wondering if Spence would be an option at RW. Not in lieu of a proper signing there, but just as another option.

I can understand why he didn't get any time there in preseason given the absentees in defence. But if he's going to be our third choice RB (behind Gray) it's tough to see what contribution he might make.

I can't see him even getting on the bench with Gray now around and after the trial at LB isn't getting in ahead of Davies. Would be restricted to cup matches and Europa barring injuries to Gray/Porro.

Fucking should be 'an all. "Ooh, I want to play for England now on my terms". It's not your skin colour Ben, you can't just pick and choose.
