One of the most lackadaisical players I've seen.

Either he is very fatigued, or he just isn't good enough. Regardless, we need proper competition at the LB positon.
He’s definitely good enough, but there is Something a miss this year v’s last season.

He’s young, he’ll go through dips like this while he continues to develop. Plus the serious injury he had in the summer.

Rushed back from injury, overplayed, young, no competition. It’s no surprise he’s struggling this season but it’s impossible to blame him for the reasons above. Get a lb in January and allow the kid to succeed.

most minutes played for an outfield player this season for us.
Not a great stat for a kid. He needs rest. But he's making mistakes that you don't see in the championship. Really simple defensive mistakes. You can't keep giving the ball away it bad areas without getting punished. And obviously terrible defending against Brighton. Shame vdv got injured. No surprise tho. One thing Ang knew was vdv is likely up for injury on the left side.

Tbf Ange has rested him twice and in both games he’s ended up playing 78 & 76 minutes in them due to reasons beyond Agnes control

Really good player, Unfairly over exposed. He’s just come back from 4 months injured and plays every game in every competition by necessity.

Honestly with Udogie and Van de ven it’s really hard to analyse where they are given the amount of games they have to play, their ages and the holes in our squad.

Yeah to be fair, he has been overplayed and its definitely showing. He's a great player when he's fully fit and well rested. Half of the errors and sloppiness dissappear from his play if he had more rest.

Fatigue and exhaustion is a real thing and as fans we do tend to forget these guys are also human. They will break down and also make mistakes due to this.

We definitely need to bring in some left sided competition in January.

In all seriousness though, I didn't see a whole lot of the game yesterday, how did he play?

Thought he played well personally.

Surprised by the state of this thread, considering his age and the role hes asked to play - he covers so much ground making inroads into the final third from full back, countless overlaps every game, im not sure theres many players who could play the role we're asking him to right now and nail it on both sides of the ball. For the first goal hes played the pass to Son and then sprinted 30+ yards as a decoy run to open up the space for the cross and subsequent equaliser, but doesnt get much credit for it it seems. If that goal doesnt go in, hes then tasked with getting back into position asap to lock down the winger, which he has to do multiple times a game.

Hes a young player playing a tough role and i think hes doing a pretty good job of it to be honest (i dont think hes playing as badly as this thread makes out, not even close). He offers us something down the left we do not have on the right, and its a massive part of our attacking play.

He already is one of the best full backs in the League, especially on the left. It‘s a very tough position and he covers it very well. He is inly turning 22 now and he already is physically strong, has a good speed and great technical skills. The mistakes he makes in the defence will only make him stronger. Would never switch him off against any other player in the PL. Have a little patience.

Was good yesterday. As soon as Ange encouraged him to start to vary things up and overlap in the second half he created the space for Son’s goal

He’s being heavily overplayed. Shouldn’t have started our last 4 games and played the full 90 in 3 of them (played 88 mins against West Ham) . FB is the most physically demanding position for in our system. Little wonder he isn’t on top form.
At least he should get a rest in the international break. He doesn’t start does he for Italy?

Agreed I think it’s just a frustration at the club for once again failing to by cover for a key position. He needs a rest and he’ll have to play thurs and Sunday likely 90 mins in both again

Probably his best performance of the season yesterday, however Villa's right-hand side is really lacking now they've sold Diaby and Bailey has fallen out of favour.

Really wish he'd get an extended break.

Nah it'll likely be Dimarco in a back-5. They have a couple of big games against Belgium and France so hopefully it'll be Dimarco that's preferred in both.

Really like Udogie but it’s such a shame Spence is injured and we can’t give him any rest. It would be good for both of their development to have some competition and to be able to manage their game time.
